Meet Tyler Anthony of Anthony Creative House in Lewisville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Anthony.

Tyler, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Tyler Anthony, and I’m a brand designer and illustrator living in the Dallas area. I grew up south of the metroplex in Mansfield, Texas where my love for art began, and I have been involved in the creative world in some way ever since then. I can’t recall a time in my life that I wasn’t creating something or thinking of creating something. As a kid, I was always using my imagination, whether it was playing with G. I. Joes or drawing an elaborate self portrait or something hockey related. That creative spirit has always been part of me.

In high school, I came to the realization that I wanted to do this for a living, so I enrolled in a local college while doing freelance graphic design in my free time. After college, I started my career at a local t-shirt company. I eventually moved onto a few different jobs from in-house to agencies trying to figure out what avenue of design I wanted to focus on.

After a few good jobs and some challenging ones, I landed at O&H Brand design, a local agency where I found my love for brand design specifically. I loved taking an idea or an existing company and telling their story visually through design. In my time there, I learned that a brand is not just a logo and was pushed to new limits I didn’t know I had in me.

Several years into my career at O&H, I was contacted by The Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas, about a Senior Graphic Designer position. At first, I was hesitant because I loved working in the branding world in the big city, but after a while, it was pretty obvious that I needed to take the job to be closer to home and the family. It ended up being a great decision for my career, allowing me to be on another award-winning team and have more time for freelance and family.

This is about the time when Anthony Creative House was born. I’ve always done freelance on the side but finally found the name I knew I wanted to use to brand my work. My wife and I partner to make Anthony Creative House, where we’ve had the amazing opportunity to work with clients such as the Dallas Stars, Musicbed, Crossway, and so many more.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth is a relative term. Haha! I was born with dyslexia and that was a huge source of frustration and struggle while I was in school. Dyslexia can have many faces, but for me, it affected the way I was able to read and comprehend text. However, due to those struggles, I really leaned into my creative talent as an escape and way to cope. I think in that sense, the road has been “smooth” because design and art always came as second nature to me when a lot of other things didn’t. Don’t get me wrong I still spent a lot of long hours practicing and fine-tuning my technique, as well as trial and error to teach myself new skills.

Please tell us about your business.
At Anthony Creative House, we specialize in branding and illustration. My wife and I have teamed up to do the work of ACH. She handles a lot of client relations while I do the design strategy and work. We love to partner with businesses of all sizes to tell their story in a visual way. We also create one-of-a-kind art and hope to expand into some other areas where we can best use our talents to bring good products to the market.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Well, obviously the good Lord for blessing me with my talents, ability and drive. But there have also been some influential people in my life who have patiently and graciously helped me develop my skills even more. My mom is a saint and came right alongside me in all my school-aged years as we discovered the challenges dyslexia brought to the table – she’s always been my biggest fan. Brian Owens, Travis Hopper, Brian McAdams, and Heather Clark Lynn were great to work with and inspired me every day I was at O&H. David Roark, Ryan Jarrell, Jenna Lusk, Jesse Mckee, Matt Jameson, Laura Johns, E’an Verdugo and the rest of the communications team at The Village Church have also had a huge impact on my life, both in creative and personal ways. These are some of the smartest and most talented people I have ever known and have all helped me get to where I am today.
