Meet Niyati Shah of Mithash Cakes – The Mesmerizing Moments in Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Niyati Shah.

Niyati, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
“When a word doesn’t express, things you can’t explain, art represents your Soul!!” My secret of happiness is my art – where I flow and pour my feelings. I’m a mom of two beautiful kids, aged 9 and 5. Also, a microbiologist by profession and was working in a pharmaceutical company before taking a break. But art is always my passion and Love. I like any form of art and baking is one of many. And always wanted to do something I love. I started baking in 2008 and learned from a baking institute. Initially started baking for my friends and my hubbies’ colleges and then slowly grew by adding more using my creativity and innovations. That’s how I started my journey in the art of baking.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you want to create something unique, you will surely face some challenges. I learned basics from my teachers, but coming from India, I always wanted to bring Indian flavors to the art of baking, which is not very easy, especially when you are in a foreign land. Getting the flavors right is a must as this is what Mithash is all about. So getting all ingredient right is a challenge as you don’t find everything easily here in the USA and will make me try different things to get it right. It is also equally challenging to get it pitched to your customers as it is something they will be trying out for the first time. But as we all know, consistency and patience is key for any success, and adding my love and passion to it gave me the right fuel to keep it going.

Women are usually good at multitasking and managing. And I also firmly believe that there is a will there is a way. Keep motivating yourself each day, no matter how much people will judge from their perspective. We have to do our best. And make every effort to make our moments Mesmerized!

Mithash Cakes – The Mesmerizing Moments – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We make the customized cake for all occasions like Wedding, Birthday, Anniversary, Baby Shower, to name a few. You can also get a variety of customized cupcakes, cake pops, cake shots, mini cakes, cookies, etc. These are topped with icing either in Indian or American flavors!! My clients love exotic Indian flavors (e.g., Mango, Paan, Gulab Jamun, Ras Malai, etc.) I offer and other flavors as well. We have a unique way to personalize customer’s needs, which makes us stand out from the lot. And every time when they call and appreciate my work, it gives a big smile on my face.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It was my honor when I got a chance to make a cake for some known celebrities. I made a cake for Micheline Star Chef Vikas Khanna. Another proud moment came when I got a chance to design the cake for famous Bollywood singer Shaan. I also got an opportunity to make a cake for Art Of Living Singer Vikram Hazara. These proud moments/ opportunities I’ll cherish forever.
