Today we’d like to introduce you to Raymond Macias Jr.
Raymond, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started during my senior year in high school (Justin F Kimball), with the help of my very good friend, Arthur Alcala (he passed away a few years ago). We would Dj at school parties, some Quinceaneras and some Weddings. Believe it or not, we started with cassette tapes! We used two cassette decks and a Radio Shack mixer. After about a year or so in using cassettes, we started using LP’s (vinyl records) for the next several years.
We eventually stopped using vinyl records and moved on to use Cd’s and again, after a few years we went “HighTech” and began using laptops!! At first we would do it to keep busy on the weekends and make a little extra money on the side since we both had jobs and had to work during the week. After several years of Dj’ing larger scale events, I started noticing big companies doing draping, up lighting, video screens, dance floors and stage set ups. I begin to say to myself, “I can do that too!”. So after saving some money, I started buying equipment and offering those services myself. I then met Pablo Castro with Elit Productions and we instantly became great friends and partnered up to do events together. His specialty is doing audio/visual for corporate events, which I soon realized is a very lucrative industry.
Once Pablo and I started to get noticed more and more in the corporate industry, we both had to decide to leave our weekly jobs and concentrate on what he had a deep passion for private events and audio/visual services. I’m extremely happy to say that we are very well respected in our field of work, with over 25 years of experience, our great customer service skills and attention to detail. My son, Raymond Macias Jr, has been an instrumental part of our audio/visual services with his knowledge and work ethic.
Thru him, we have secured several big accounts (EvanTell, McDonald’s, McCormick, Abiding Fathers, US Army, UT Southwestern Medical Center and Strategic Events, to name a few), and I know that he will soon take on a bigger role with our family owned company. I want to add that with faith, hard work, persistence, good morals, honesty and the belief in yourself, anything is possible. Never give up on your dreams.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a fairly steady and smooth road. I guess the biggest struggle was with my big decision to leave my Zales job and afraid of having that paycheck every week. With our type of work, it’s never a guarantee that we will have an event every week. But I thank God that business has been extremely God for us, year in and year out. I’m extremely glad about the decision I made.
Please tell us about your business.
We specialize in making every event as unique as possible for each client. We understand that each client has a special vision of what they want for their event, and our job is to make it a reality. Our specialty ranges from draping decor to custom lighting and sound for any event, big or small. Unique Dallas is known for going the extra mile for each client and to provide them a stress free event so that they can enjoy every minute of their event. I’m extremely proud of my company because of the people I have working alongside me. Without them, I’m sure we would no longer be around.
To be around for over 25 years says a lot about any company and to sustain the high quality of service to each and every client. What sets us apart at Unique Dallas compared to others is our attention to detail, our honesty and the trust that we gain with each client that we serve.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are quite a few people that deserve a lot of credit. But first, I thank God for opening so many doors for me along the way, both with my business and my personal life. My parents (Juan and Refugia Macias), my brother (Raul Macias) and all of my five sisters (Teresa, Martina, Sylvia, Luz and Veronica) who to this day, tell me to always do the best at anything I do in life. My son (Raymond Macias Jr), my daughters (Bianca, Brianna and Zailey) have always encouraged me as well and they’re the reason I strive to be the best at what I do. Arthur Alcala, for helping me get Unique Dallas started from the very beginning and always believing that we had started something really special. Pablo Castro, for his expertise in the AV industry and countless hours he spent in teaching me the ins and outs of such an extensive industry, but mainly his friendship.
