Today we’d like to introduce you to A. J. LeGrand.
A. J., let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I never had any intention of being a performing artist, it just sort of happened inadvertently. I started as a journalist student with interest in becoming a novelist, a reporter or music writer.
I was lucky enough to have college roommates who had played in bands growing up. They introduced me to electric guitars, synthesizers, and different approaches for recording music. I started writing lyrics, melodies and eventually songs. I started a few music projects in college and recorded several EPs.
I started the A. J. LeGrand music project when I moved to Dallas 4 years ago and I’ve released one full-length record with this project. There are plans to release a new full-length record later this year.
Has it been a smooth road?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road, but being able to pursue something I care deeply about, is fulfilling. If I ever get upset or impatient with my progress or lack of progress, I just have to remind myself that it’s a long process and that things will continue to improve if I continue to improve my craft.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a musician, an artist and a community member. If I’m known for anything outside of my circle of friends and family it’s most likely for my music, photos or other creative projects I’m involved in.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My main hope over the next decade is to be able to continue releasing music and continue participating in cool projects that I’m interested in. If I can keep playing tunes and postpone the inevitability of becoming a real adult for another ten years, that will feel like a huge victory.
