Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Colon.
Stephen, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our organization got its start by accident. I was the VP of Sales at an Ag-Tech Startup sales team in Austin when I confronted another leader in HR who wasn’t being honest with the owner of the company about an incident on my team. After we exchanged some professional but heated words, I proceeded to send my wife an “unfiltered” recount of my feelings about this woman’s actions. The problem was, I texted THE HR LEADER, not my wife. Oops. That scenario helped to fuel the creative vision of assisting folks within organizations in today’s’ culture uniquely connect with their audience. Through sharing of mistakes, failures, and setbacks that lead to the success we strive for in life, business, and relationships. I started podcasting as a largely therapeutic exercise that led to other business leaders wanting to share their mistakes and inadvertently creating more trusting human interaction with this digital medium. Folks started to connect directly with us as we grew our services as an organization to include us replicating the podcast creation, production, and subsequent content distribution for their organizations.
My professional experience consists of a smorgasbord of athletic competition as a college football player, process systems and leadership loyalist earned through the rigorous training that only the Marine Corps can provide, as well as an individual contributor revenue producer selling products and services designed to add value to my clients. We’ve been able to vet successfully, onboard, and train other service professionals to this collaborative and creative process, thus enhancing the experience for our clients. We help bring dead leads to life with our unique creative process. We bring a human voice to our client’s digital presence and pipe that message directly into the ears of their listeners.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No. Not one bit. A few stumbles proceeded every growth-oriented step forward along the way. I was responsible for over $5M of revenue generated from 2012-2016 and led teams from 2016-2018 that generated over $16M in revenue for our respective organizations. Despite those career accomplishments, I continued to get passed over for even the most junior of sales or sales leadership roles – even further entrenching the need to build a thriving and stable organization predicated on the value we provide to our clients.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our process has netted out our flagship show, Knucklehead Podcast, being rated in the Top 100 of Business Podcasts in 6 separate countries and helped to carve out a repeatable process for us to bring to our clients. We work with product and service-based businesses and their previous customers to replicate a frictionless user experience to the podcast creation process. We believe your voice soothes even the most distrusting consumers and decision-makers, only if you’re able to speak directly to their interests, needs, and emotions. We don’t try to be all things a digital agency leads you to believe they can be. We provide a process for micro-content to be generated and produced that leads to a conversation, in-bound and interested in what your business does for the market. What separates us from others is we do not rush to automate or monetize clients shows or digital presence, but begin the entire creative process with that goal in mind that we will pivot to from a cost-center to a revenue-generator for their business.
What were you like growing up?
Great question. I was curious, active, a little mischievous. I adored my older brothers and their athletic achievements. Also, my mom did everything she could to protect my brothers and me from the abuse my step-dad doled out as well as kept us from having to deal too much with my displaced dad.
