Meet Lauren Pavlasek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Pavlasek.

Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started to Gimme the Lo-Down almost two years ago while recovering from a disordered eating pattern in my life. I wanted to create a platform that would allow me to hold myself accountable for the foods that I was eating while encouraging others to have fun in the kitchen. Gimme the Lo-Down has developed tremendously since then: I’ve had a baby, I’ve learned a lot about myself, I’ve gotten to partner with companies that I adore, and I’ve expanded my horizons when it comes cooking. I enjoy learning how to cook new foods and pairing easy and simple ingredients to create flavorful and approachable meals for my followers. I have loved walking through pregnancy and motherhood publicly, learning from other women and sharing the things that I have learned throughout my journey as well. Gimme the Lo-Down is continuing to grow and adapt as I step into motherhood and I am so thankful to share this hobby with so many others!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth. There have been times where I have been really excited to create new recipes and there have also been creative ruts. I started this account as a creative outlet and I’ve found that the less pressure I put on myself, the better my content becomes. I have learned to be patient and authentic. I started this account with the mindset that even if I only ever had one follower, I’d still only post what felt right for me!

Please tell us about your work.
My account is all about authenticity – I strive to only post about things that I enjoy. I talk about recipes, pregnancy resources I used, baby products I like, etc. I had a natural unmedicated birth, so I’ve gotten to connect with a lot of pregnant women about their births and the fears or excitement that surrounds that. I have connected with other women about disordered eating and finding freedom in eating real good whole foods. I don’t try to be anything that I’m not – I’m not a dietician, I’m not a full-time blogger, I’m not a super mom – I’m just me, and I’m proud to keep my account as genuine as I can.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing! I love what Gimme the Lo-Down has evolved into.
