Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Hyatt.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve become a member of the “Texas Brotherhood Ride” in 2014. We our a group of First Responders who honor first responders who died in the line of duty. Our organization does a bicycle ride every year that honors those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in Texas. We have honored several Dallas Police Officers, Dallas Fireman and other first responders around the Dallas metroplex that died in the line of duty. Our website www.texasbrotherhoodride.com and our Facebook page “Texas Brotherhood Ride” gives more information of what our organization is about.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I became part of this organization because in 2009 I lost two crew members in the line of duty at a house fire my crew was at April 12th Easter Sunday morning. A year later, this organization honored my two fallen brothers.. and that inspired me to buy a bike and do these rides. I joint the board of directors in 2017.
Please tell us about Texas Brotherhood Ride.
What sets us apart is we’re a true nonprofit. Nobody on the board or organization takes a dime we collect. 100% of the money we raise goes directly to the beneficiary of the first responder we honored. Our rides are 7, 8 or even been 9 days long. Every rider does every mile. Last years ride was eight days 650 miles.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The one thing that matters to me is to let these families know that their sacrifice of their first responder is never forgotten. To let them know people out there care.
