Rachel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I starting in the optical industry at the age of 16 years old as a receptionist. During the first few months of my employment, I was shown how to perform basic adjustments to eyewear. I became intrigued by the understanding of optics and soon transitioned into the optical dispensing department.
I have continued in the optical industry for over 21 years now. I spent many of my years in management positions across the state of Texas. The gift of sight is a true blessing which inspires me each day.
In 2015 I made a decision to pursue my dream of opening my first optical. NuVue Optical Boutique opened in July of 2015. Located just outside of Northwest Fort Worth, in the community of Haslet. My office is stocked with only independent eyewear and we offer the very latest in both eyeglass and lens technology on the market.
Our office provides updated eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions with the most current refracting equipment. Customers can walk in with no appointment and be provided an updated prescription with in about 10 minutes. So updating the prescription and selecting eyewear, both eyeglasses and sunglasses, can be done in roughly one hour.
Has it been a smooth road?
I had become proficient over the last 18 years in many departments. Most were second nature. Taxes were my biggest learning curve. There was much to learn.
Generally, people work 9-5 jobs. I wanted to be able to accommodate the 9 to 5 clientele and attend school functions with my kids. I have two children in high school. So to cater to everyone, I am open late Monday thru Wednesday from 10-7pm and customers come in as early as 7am on Thursday and Friday. I understand the importance of a tight schedule being a parent. I often will extend a Saturday appointment to those who are unable to meet my work hours.

NuVue Optical Boutique was established in July 2015. I am the owner and operator. I am an optician by trade with over 20 years of experience in the field. I am proud to be one of the very few in the United States that provides independent Designer eyewear that is 100% handcrafted.
Many of our frames are available in 100 colors in various finishes and 3 sizes. Our customized eyeglasses are hand crafted in the USA. Private appointments are available to my clientele upon request, however no appointment is necessary. Specialty cases for children’s glasses are a niche product and special gift to each of our NuVue kids! I am one of few offices in the USA that provides these plush animal cases to children to reinforce a positive vibe in maintaining their eyewear rather than just responsibility. Peer pressure can be a struggle at a young age. We make sure our kids have a blast selecting their new glasses.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Not only is my office located in the city of Haslet, but I reside in Haslet with my husband and children as well. Haslet is absolutely known for more quiet living. Haslet is in the Northwest ISD district which is a highly sought out area for students and families. Small town outside of the big city.
