Conversations with the Inspiring May Maggitti

Today we’d like to introduce you to May Maggitti.

May, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in the real estate industry back in 2012 and worked on the lending side for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Newport Beach, CA. It’s something I kind of just fell into after graduating from college, most likely because of the increased exposure I’ve had to the industry with my dad also working in mortgage and investing in real estate. I witnessed how fulfilling, fun, and fruitful the industry can be. But working on the lending side wasn’t quite for me- I quickly learned I was not made for a life spent ten hours a day in a cubicle staring at numbers, talking endlessly on the phone, and with tons of paperwork sitting on my desk.

Fast forward to 2017 when I decided to take a leap of faith and transition into a sales agent servicing the DFW metroplex, after already having lived here for three years. I hit the ground running after getting my license and it was exhilarating! Assisting people in the search for finding the perfect home to grow their families and seeing their smiling faces at closing was enough to get me hooked. I knew this was my future and I haven’t looked back since.

Has it been a smooth road?
Is it ever a smooth road? No one in real estate ever tells you how hard it can be to obtain new business. People tell you about how fulfilling the industry is or boast about how much money and opportunity is available, but no one really touches on how you need to pour all your time, energy, heart, and soul into learning the business. The biggest struggle was showcasing to others how knowledgeable I was in the space and how choosing me over any other agent was the right decision. Once I landed my first client, getting new clients wasn’t as hard because I now had proof of how hard I work.

My advice to other young women who are just starting out is to just keep going. Continue to learn the trade, network with as many people as you can, get involved in your local community, embrace rejection and learn from it because you will get rejected… A LOT. But all you can do is not give up and keep going. Real Estate is a numbers game, the more people you talk to you the higher chance you have of landing that new deal!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I match my clients to their dream homes and help with the transition into the next stage of their lives. Although I also work with sellers and leases, my specialty is in helping first time home buyers. Patience and effective communication are one of my strongest qualities, ones I’m most proud of, and they are particularly useful when it comes to working with someone who’s never purchased before. While there are plenty of other agents to choose from, my background on the lending side, coupled with my experience on the sales side puts my clients in a greater position. Because of my comprehensive experience, I can save my buyer’s time and make the process easier for them by being able to address any potential roadblocks early on in the process. It helps tremendously to be able to see the overall picture!

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Purchasing a home is a milestone achievement that involves many psychological factors which influence a buyer’s decision. Women are well-positioned for sales roles due to their higher emotional intelligence that relies on empathy, compassion, self-awareness, and effective communication skills. I take pride on actively utilizing these skills with my clients to achieve their financial goals and wishes.
