Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Garcia.
Mario, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I love to create. I’ve always edited video, as a 12-year old, I would utilize a camera and a tape player to cut and edit film and transfer to a tape. Fast forward to now, I wanted to create. Creating content that I found fun to create in my free time is a much-needed escape from day to day work. Authenticity being the most important thing to me. I wanted to voice my opinion on specific items I find interest with. Being a fan of a sports team or reviewing basketball shoes or sharing my travel experiences to even shooting funny skits. I love to create and shooting videos on YouTube fulfills that void.
Has it been a smooth road?
Initially shooting videos back in 2015 was easy, I had zero expectations really smooth. Mind you, I’m shooting everything through a phone. Once I became a little more serious about it, the quality of the videos came to the forefront of the process. Which made it hard to not be as critical of myself cause I would find myself comparing to other very high-quality videos. Add the editing process can take so long and without patience, the editing can show the lack of detail taken. I had to have a hard conversation with myself because the process wasn’t fun anymore. That conversation being just do what makes you happy. But for a few years, I was chasing quality/content that I was incapable of producing at the time.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
For me, the channel/brand is to push authenticity. To endorse it. To be brave about it. The channel I have takes or perspectives that may not be contemporary, but it is a true feeling. I specialize in opinion and sharing an experience. Based on my videos, I’m probably most known for basketball shoe reviews and sports talk. What I’m most proud of this is that I was able to overcome a mental block with speaking. Shooting videos has helped me improve with public speaking and socializing. The YouTube comments harden you and make it easier for in-person communication. In other words, my confidence. What sets me apart. The authenticity.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city has a wide range of avenues for everyone. As a YouTuber, the city hasn’t been exposed to the world to the likes of a NY or LA yet. So someone had an opportunity to do just that for Dallas. For a YouTuber starting out in Dallas. We don’t have that strong networking community yet. I think there are some here and there. But starting out just focus on yourself and want you to accomplish. Dallas typically reacts to everything. If you have something that gets attention from elsewhere, Dallas will eventually catch the wind and give you the support.
Which overall, Dallas can improve on identifying talent the city has to offer. It’s been a bad stigma of the city for years. But it has improved a ton over the last couple of years. Which is why I feel Dallas has the potential to be a media outlet to the likes of a NY or LA.
