Today we’d like to introduce you to Quanysha Williams.
Quanysha, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Quanysha Williams and I’m 28-years-old. I was born and raised in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas but today, I live in West Plano, TX. I started modeling and dancing when I was 18, and I chose to increase my focus on modeling and dancing starting in 2014. I traveled across the U.S. dancing in clubs and modeling whenever the opportunity to do so presented itself. In 2016, I decided to start my own company called Lashes. The company was successful but I decided in 2018 to return to dancing and modeling as I missed the club scene and I wanted to see what changes had taken place in regards to fashion and music. After a few short months, I came up with the idea to create my own clothing brand called Baddgurl. I created a website (Baddgurlsgear.com) and I continue to add new designs and products. My line of swimwear, lingerie and shirts are the most popular items. I’ve enjoyed learning about business and building my own website and designing my own clothes has also been an enjoyable experience.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge I had to overcome is that I didn’t go to college. Without a degree in business, I didn’t know where to begin to when I started Lashes, however, I learned quickly and I gained confidence as my sales increased. Dancing and modeling are things I enjoy but instead of just focusing on the money, I used the time I danced and interacted with people in the clubs or on a modeling shoot, to learn about fashion. I also asked the owners of the clubs a lot of questions related to business and they were kind enough to help explain things to me. Has it been hard? Yes. However, it’s been an education and it’s been worth all of the time, money and effort.
Please tell us about your work.
I created Baddgurl because I want to take advantage of the role influencers play in fashion and social media. Instead of using someone else’s brand, I chose to create my own brand of clothes. I targeted women with a focus on sexy and edgy clothes. Once I created a few clothing lines, I began to build the brand by selling the apparel and lingerie, and by offering samples to ladies who I knew would be photographed wearing the brand. I also have a large following of fans and I frequently take pictures of myself wearing different articles of clothing, or I post pictures of other women wearing my clothes. My fans love what I do and I greatly appreciate their support. My plan for 2020 is to continue coming up with unique and sexy designs.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Believe in yourself. Don’t make excuses. I didn’t know how to build a website so I learned. I didn’t know how to start a company so I learned. Attitude equals how high you can soar in life and business.
