Today we’d like to introduce you to BreAnna Averette.
BreAnna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My love for makeup started in 2014. I use to have my friend Christina do my makeup for my birthday and going out. I knew she was growing tired of me asking, so I learned how to do eyebrows and shortly after, I started doing my own makeup. It was in 2015 when I was at Grambling State University and my roommate, Christen, was a hairstylist and loved playing in makeup. Being her roommate, she used to practice looks and styles on me and I fell in love with a full face and started to build my makeup collection and watching YouTube videos. Over the years, I’ve gotten better, and it was my family and friends who put the idea in my head of actually becoming a makeup artist in 2018. Going back and forth with myself, I decided to take it seriously and focus on building a beauty bar to offer different cosmetic services in the Dallas area.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a struggle, trying to perfect my brand and product. Patience has been the biggest test, being patient enough to wait until something better comes along. I initially wanted to launch Regal Beauty Bar in 2019, but the timing was off and I didn’t want to put out something I wasn’t in love with. I’ve had a lot of trials and errors along the way, but once everything started coming together it somewhat released a burden off of me. I was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and that something I’ve dreamed of for so long is actually coming into form. Advice I have for women on this journey is to never doubt yourself and to set yourself apart. Don’t try to be someone else, because you see their success.
We’d love to hear more about Regal Beauty Bar.
Regal Beauty Bar offers cosmetic services in the North Dallas area. As of now, I provide makeup artistry for all events, such as birthdays, holidays, music videos, weddings, graduation, prom, photoshoots, etc. I am most proud of the growth of quality in my work and my dedication.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I don’t necessarily have a mentor when it comes to my business. I do get inspired by the make up artist I see on social media, and I try to recreate looks not only to have more content but to build confidence as well. As far as networking, every time you meet someone new is a networking opportunity. Don’t be afraid to speak up, introduce yourself or promote yourself. You never know who someone is, and who’s watching or listening. I self-promote daily, to familiarize the public of who I am and what I do. I also am blessed to have friends and family who recommend my services, which is why I am able to have a variety of clients.
