Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellen Hoffman.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After college while working in Dallas, I established my own art gallery, representing regional and southwest artists. My intense passion for art and antiquity, and research into stones, Roman glass and coins from ancient civilizations, inspired me to create one-of-a-kind jewelry heirlooms.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started in repairs and remodeling. The design business grew organically and eventually a decision was needed if I would move forward with a design studio. Launching Ellen Hoffman Designs in 2012 was very exciting and rewarding! Moving to a more cohesive line and trying to penetrate the retail market is challenging. Going direct-to-consumer beyond the local market is time-consuming and expensive. The industry favors mechanization and mass production of what was handwork for nearly a millennium. There is a market that appreciates one-of-kind, beautiful design and craftsmanship and we want to introduce them to our brand.

Through the love of travel and exploration, my studio worktables are scattered with a wondrous array of colored gemstones, both finely carved and raw crystals. My long-time love of ancient civilizations and the beauty of nature still inspire my jewelry. I give respect for each stone and its history, combined with a modern knowledge of fine jewelry making, resulting in collections that transcend time and style.
