Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Jeffrey Adams.
Tyler, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I went to school for acting and always had a dream of being in front of the camera. Maybe work in film, maybe do some modeling. Almost six years ago, I moved back to Dallas (after growing up here) and decided it was time to pursue the dream. I sat in the offices of every major modeling agency in the city and they all had their reasons for loving me but not enough to sign me. I felt pretty defeated. I always felt like I had what it takes. At that point, my brother, who is a photographer, had been taking lots of photos of me for a portfolio. I decided to kick it into full throttle and make my own path. I cleared out my Instagram, set it up to be more of a business page and began posting content. I didn’t necessarily set out to be an influencer. I just wanted to do what I love – be creative! What I didn’t realize was that this platform would be better than any modeling agency. I always felt that models were always a little anonymous. Maybe they get to participate in cool campaigns or walk the runway but rarely do you know a model by name. With social media, I’m my own brand. And the best part is that I can connect with my followers and they can really get a unique look into my life. I’ve been posting and creating for about three years now. It’s really cool to look back and see how far I’ve come.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the hardest part are the days when I don’t feel like creating. I’ll have days where I don’t like the way my body looks or my hair or my skin and the last thing I want to do is take a photo. Or my introverted side takes over and I’d rather stay in and watch Netflix than get suited up and shoot some content. Everybody hits roadblocks but it’s important to keep challenging yourself. I’ve learned that I inspire me. It’s those days that I push through the self-doubt and choose to create, that I get the best product. I also think it’s important to listen to your self and allow yourself a break every now and then. I’ve had months where I step away from social media and really try to shift my focus into other areas of my life. It’s all about balance and taking care of yourself. That’s a huge thing I’ve learned over the last year.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
What not everyone realizes is that shooting content can be both creative and professional! I’ve been fortunate to team up with several brands like ExpressMen, MVMT, Abercrombie & Fitch, Absolut Vodka, Neutrogena, Members Only, Gillette and more. With this platform I’ve created for myself, I’m able to team up with brands that I’m passionate about and promote their business alongside my creative style. An inspired collaboration. I’m proud that I’ve maintained my voice over the few years I’ve been creating. My focus has always been to be confident in who I am with hopes to inspire others to be confident in their own skin!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
It’s important to grade success on your own scale. Set goals and surpass them. That is true success. Don’t become overwhelmed or limited by society’s idea of success. You are in control! I wouldn’t be where I am today if I had listened to everyone who said I wasn’t right for modeling. I created my own path and I could have never imagined the opportunities or relationships that have come from it. I’m very excited to continue challenging myself and setting new goals! I have big ideas for myself and my brand. This is just the beginning.
