Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Helmberger.
Abby, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up on a farm with six sisters and one baby brother at the end, being girly wasn’t in my nature as a kid I loved being a tom boy but as time went on and I reached high school I discovered a new found love for makeup and all the ways you could paint your face. I taught myself everything I needed to know to become a freelance MUA and it’s become my therapy. Whether I’m doing a bridal party, a photoshoot, proms or simply just a date night glam on someone I am excited because I know I have the ability to empower everyone through makeup. As time went on, I found myself wanting to learn more and more talents in the artist community, I’ve always loved modeling and editing photos and creating photoshoots in my head. December 2019 is when I finally took the leap into photography and I haven’t looked back since. I am constantly inspired and planning new ideas to create for people and I can’t wait to see where my journey takes me.
Has it been a smooth road?
I guess like all artists I felt like my hard work wasn’t getting the recognition I had hoped in the beginning. That’s not me saying I deserve praise but when you put time, money and hard creative work into something you have high hopes for it to be appreciated. Being a photographer has its up’s and down’s, everyone wants to be the best and everyone wants to create powerful art that will leave a good impression on people so I understand my constant fear of not being enough as a creative but I’ve also learned to appreciate every moment I get to have doing the jobs I love. I never regret anything I do or create, it’s all a lesson to become an even better version of myself.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business name “HelmbergerGlam” originated from my last name Helmberger because i wanted my brand to represent me along with my makeup background “Glam”. At first it was all about me being a makeup artist but my talents have grown farther to hair, makeup, photography, styling and creative director. I am quite literally an entire glam squad all in one. The thing I’m most proud of in my company is that I constantly improve my services I offer and how much I’ve grown this past year. Growth is something that I believe is the game changer for any business; if you can’t grow then where will you or your business ever go? What sets me apart from others is my ideas are authentic when it comes to creating a certain vision, I am not a cookie cutter artist. I strive for authenticity and I’m not afraid to speak my mind in a world of sensitive people. Keeping to your true self in an industry like this is very important to the clients you attract. I will always be the best I can be for any and every one and I flourish off of connections with people. And not many artists can say they can do your hair, makeup, photos, styling and direct can they?
