Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Guild.
Vanessa’s training began over 19 years ago in ZEN. She continued her studies working with Azim Khamisa, whose international philanthropic work has been honored by The Dalai Lama and others, working within prisons in Sydney, Australia to CEO offices and high schools in La Jolla, CA. She completed three, 10-day completely silent Vipassana trainings and then actually – lived in – and taught at The Dallas Meditation Center for three years guiding meditation classes for women, various groups, CEO’s and one-on-one private sessions. Vanessa is also certified both in mindfulness/meditation and yoga. Losing everything in Hurricane Katrina and grappling with the addiction and alcoholism within her family, however, were Vanessa’s greatest teachers. It is one thing learning something from an SMU book but life circumstances teach you true radical acceptance, impermanence and presence-of-mind when forced to actually do it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s not a smooth ride for any of us. Life is not here to make you happy, rather to provide situations in order to grow. I have had my struggles like us all. Leaving home at 15/16 wasn’t easy due to the family disease of addiction, nor dealing with a violent step-father and I could list a lot more (can’t we all?). It’s not the degree of difficulty or the struggle that matters and I’ve been in deep, deep waters but it is what we chose to do with the difficulty that counts.
Please tell us about Vanessa Guild- Mindfulness Expert Trainer.
Vanessa potently teaches effective techniques on how to calm and de-stress in the midst of difficult times. Whether corporate teams, families or personal one-on-one coaching she empowers one’s ability to focus and stay centered. She also leads classes within schools, women’s gatherings, institutions, rehabilitation centers, artistic groups and more. In the midst of current COVID, Vanessa has transferred classes to ZOOM and other technical tools as well. She explains the science and the benefits of mindfulness/meditation practice and ensures all are equipped to be able to practice on their own. She comes from a family of doctors and deeply believes in proven results and data but also understands one can have all the knowledge in the world but still not have peace-of-mind. Peace of mind is key during any crisis or upset and mindfulness/meditation training when done correctly alleviates fear, stress and anxiety, period. Vanessa is the instructor for you because she’s had to actually “live it” herself.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Lol. Yes there is a great deal I would have done differently now that I have different tools. Hindsight is always 20/20. I am grateful to it all. I needed all of it to make me who I am today and for this I am grateful.
