Today we’d like to introduce you to De’Amber Ford.
Thanks for sharing your story with us De’Amber . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Music and Make-up have always played a huge part in my life and my story. But to summarize everything I will say I’ve always had a deep-rooted passion for music as a child, but I feel like music really became a huge part of my life when I entered high school in 2009. I really began to make the decision that I wanted to teach/ perform for the rest of my life. and during that same year, I began to experiment with make-up. over the years I have tried to find ways that I could incorporate the two. I feel now I have started to express myself more by combining the two.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
the road hasn’t been smooth for me at all. at an early age I was diagnosed with Dyslexia, ADHD, and then my senior year I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Having to battle with having dyslexia and ADHD was very hard sometimes I felt ashamed or embarrassed. I had a teacher tell my mother that “I wouldn’t be a good candidate to graduate from high school” I was only in the 2nd grade. my mother made sure that I would be successful. My senior year was honestly the hardest time of my life I was homeless and I couldn’t walk , write or even play my flute or do my make – up, it was a very depressing time especially because I didn’t know what was going on with me. Only my two best friends knew that I was homeless, it was hard having to go to school and play like everything was ok and it wasn’t. it was times where I thought we were going to have to go to a shelter because it had gotten that bad. a lot of people really didn’t know I was living from a hotel to friends’ houses. emotionally I was a wreck a mess. but With God in my corner, my mother and siblings we pull through it all and i graduted high school and was on my way to college.
Amber shanice – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My Youtube Channel Amber Shanice is showing how I navigate my life as a Mom , and a music major and how i use make-up to express myself with my performances big lashes and all .My channel is a way for me to express myself fully without me feeling like an outcast. I really want people to come to my channel and watch my videos and say “wow I’ve learned something new” or “it’s good to know I’m not the only one feelings like this” or simply ” i can relate to her.”
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment for me so far is seeing how for so many years people were telling me I should put my work online and now to be finally doing it is amazing it’s like I’m supposed to be doing this. I never thought I would get this far. because I have had so many people say will you can’t do this or you can’t do that.. it makes me proud to say im doing it and im not done yet. so many people spoke and wished ill- will on my life. You cant stop me
