Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluwandara Thompson.
Oluwandara, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m Dara JT, Music Producer and Audio Engineer originally from Nigeria currently living in Dallas TX. I’ve been in the music scene for 15 years now and still going. Had the opportunity to work with hard working talented artists like Alexandra Demattia, Alphein, Sam Rivera, Arvi Unique, Max Million, Chris Laws, Tay Collier, and the list goes on. I graduated from Musicians Institute in Hollywood in the Audio Engineering Program and I also had the opportunity to learn from others as well about the music business. I’m just so grateful to God for the journey because without Him, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today which is being a safe place for all Artists, Producers, Musicians and Audio Engineers that I work with today. It’s more than just the music, it’s a ministry.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Now, it has been a smooth road because people now see the value of my work and pay for the beats I create to help them with their ideas. The struggle along the way is that growing up in an African culture, most parents want their kids to be doctors, lawyers, engineers, bankers and so on. Nobody saw that being a creative is a real job. I’m grateful to God that I never underestimated myself and I’m thankful that I am still consistent today in my craft. Most important of all my parents support me today.
Please tell us about the business.
My business is being a Music Producer and I get the opportunities to create something out of nothing. Helping Artists around me bring their ideas and visions to life through music. I specialize in the Music Production process and I’m also in the recording process as well. I’m known for being a very hardworking and consistent producer. What I am most proud of as a business is being a blessing to up and coming Artists who don’t have much resources by helping them produce their debut singles, eps and albums. What sets me apart from others is character which is the most important by seeing the value in everyone around me and never underestimating anyone. Second, is the passion I have for the music. Everybody knows and sees the joy I have on the videos I post on my Instagram which is [@dara_jt94]. It’s truly a blessing.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There are so many proud moments that I’m grateful for. What I am most proud of now is that I was blessed with the opportunity to executive produce my friend, Alexandra Demattia’s Debut EP “Shoulda Coulda Woulda” which is out now on all platforms. Another proud moment I’m grateful for is being the originator of a challenge called “History In The Making’ which was announced by Pastor Mike Todd.
