Today we’d like to introduce you to A. Price.
Thanks for sharing your story with us A. Price. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Most definitely! First, I want to say thanks for having me and allowing me to share my story. I can’t forget the people that supported me in this journey and continue to as we continue this race. Can’t forget the ones that told me I would never be anything or presented challenges along the way, you helped make this possible just as much as anyone.
I was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Prince George’s County Maryland. I began writing and performing at a young age. I want to say I was eight when I wrote my first song and nine when I had my first acting role in a school play as a superstar music artist. I’ve always been comfortable being put on the spot whether on stage or on camera to perform; whether acting, performing musically, sports, or even public speaking. When I became a teenager, I began recording myself with a laptop and some beats some friends of mine had composed. I was also writing fictional books and scripts for friends and classmates too. I later met two very important mentors who helped mold and guide my talent towards a professional act and not just a hobby. I attended college in Ohio for two years before returning home. After returning home, I realigned my focus and began the practice of mastering my craft and perfecting my sound. I registered as a songwriter with BMI and began submitting catalogues of work as my brand grew. I performed at 2-3 open mics a night weekly for two years in downtown DC. I also performed at showcases, festivals, high school pep rally’s, University homecomings, and any opportunity I could find if there was a microphone. Eventually I had the opportunity to open for acts such as Cash Out, Meek Millz, 2 Chainz, Fat Trel and more. I’ve also had the opportunity to audition with America’s Got Talent in 3 different cities. I decided to move to Dallas three years ago as I saw it as an opportunity to expand my brand by networking with other businesses for partnerships and growth. So far so good.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This journey has had its ups and downs and some things go smoother than others, but that’s the nature of business. Every business experience struggles, some more than others. One of the struggles early on for The Lyfe was finding the right audience and building a base of supporters for what I was offering. It was easy earlier on to look at others and try to fit the mold of what was trending. As time went on I would learn that my vision, sound and bottom line was what makes The Lyfe unique.
The greatest struggle I would say is that of self-discipline. Keeping first things first and not getting distracted by anything that would allow me to lose sight of my primary goals. Sometimes that was people, sometimes it was opportunities that did not align with my goals, sometimes it was a lack of motivation. All of these can be conquered with self-discipline.
The Lyfe – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The focus right now is Entertainment. Offering live performances, songwriting, and creative direction. Right now I’m known mostly for my performing arts, from emceeing to performing live music. I record and perform as the artist A. Price. I am currently working on two projects that will be releasing before the end of 2020. Some of the songs from the projects have been performed at 4theculture studios and with Live XXV Ent., DJSO4KIS and DJ Lion King. Some may know a few if they have attended events or follow me on social media. Songs like Lavish, Own Thing, Where Did We Go, Hold Me Down, and Want You. Recently I have begun working with AnjieStylez. Creative directing her photo shoots and helping guide her visual concepts and bringing them to life. In partnership with Anjiestylez I am hoping to introduce clothing designs in early 2021. I am proud of the achievement of finding creatives with strong work ethics and creating working relationships to expand their brand as well as my own in a new city. It means a lot to me to be able to take something that was a childhood dream from a small area on the East coast and turn it into a nationwide brand. What sets The Lyfe apart is the ability to touch those in different demographics and audiences. Offering diversity by blending genres, sounds and styles The Lyfe fits into any event from family, to clubs, to weddings, or parties. The Lyfe will soon expand into modeling and fashion as well.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
When my idols become my rivals is one way I define it. There are small successes throughout the journey as goals are continually set, but I don’t consider success an ending but a constant journey. Every day I am in the practice of being successful. Like an athlete, musician or lawyer; when I reach a goal, I set another one. Mamba mentality. You’re only as successful as the moment you experience success. Once that moment is over you have to figure out how to do it again and again. That’s how I define success.
