Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Watford.
Krystal, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It started out as a hobby. Creating clothes that no one could find anywhere else. If I wanted a pair of shoes I liked, I got them. If I found I couldn’t find anything to match, I made it. A couple of years ago, my husband noticed all of these little pieces of paper everywhere with little fun, quirky sayings. He asked me what they were. I told him they were little ideas I thought would be good on shirts. He told me just to go for it, to just go ahead and make my dream a reality. So I did my research, got my equipment and took about 6 to 9 months just to learn and practice my craft before I was ready to introduce it to the public. Two years later I’ve come so far, I’ve learned so many new things and I finally feel like I know exactly where I want to take my business. I’ve had setbacks and failures as well as many, many triumphs. I am just really excited to see where God takes this business next.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not at all. I’ve had many nights where I could not sleep because of all the things I had to accomplish before the next day. This business has not been my immediate source of income. Since the first day I started my business, I have worked a full-time job. Finding free time tends to get really tricky. I am a mom of four, a wife, a business owner and I have a full-time job. What makes the road a lot less bumpy is that all four of those jobs are things that I absolutely love to do.
More recently with COVID-19, I was unsure how I would be able to maintain the business. Fortunately me and my family have been blessed. We’ve been shown so much love and support. So in return, Wildly Creative Designs took a break to donate masks to anyone who needed them. We donated to doctor’s offices, hospitals and daycare facilities that remained open during the pandemic.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Wildly Creative Designs – what should we know?
Wildly creative designs creates custom gifts, apparel and we’re also involved in business branding. We specialize in unique, custom clothing, logos and promotional merchandise for your business. Not the typical pen or pencil, but more things to make you and your business stand out.
I love to take that plain old jacket you have in the back of your closet you’re tired of looking at, and turn it into something that you will not find anywhere else.
I am really proud of how this business is growing. Sometimes when I’m asked if I can do something specific, I’m not always sure if I can deliver. However, I do my research, dig deep inside that creative pit, and amaze myself at the outcome. I believe what sets me apart is my ability to visualize and imagine something and bring it to life. I’m always pushing myself further…deeper. I don’t put limits on my creativity, which opens me up to more opportunities.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that my customer service skills have been an important part of my business. I always keep an open line of communication between my customers (current and potential). You’re not always going to come across the easiest people, but what’s important is your response to the situation. Your customers essentially are what make your business. There has to be a certain level of respect, compassion and communication to ensure your customers continue to come back. When they do…they’ll always bring people with them.
