Today we’d like to introduce you to Alan Akard.
Alan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Back in 1990, I was employed by a Major Off Highway Tire Co. in Fort Worth, I was responsible for servicing all of Wise County and points north and west of Ft Worth.
I befriended the man (John Raines) who owned J&A Radiator. In Sept 1989 he decided to retire and offered me the business.
I took over J&A Radiator in Jan 1990, it was a modest radiator shop and under proper management quickly grew. We moved to a shop twice the size in 1992.
In 1994, I built my first shop (40×80) on Hwy 380 and expanded in Auto Repair. In 1996, I Incorporated and Began J&A Automobile Services, Inc.
In 2000, I expanded into my current 9400 sq. ft. Repair Facility. Picking up complete front-end repair and alignments.
A complete muffler and exhaust. Doing custom bending and exhaust work.
We are currently one of the largest, premiere repair facilities in Wise County.
Offering complete automotive diagnostics and repairs.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, for the first 10 yrs. the State dept. decided to tear up and expand Hwy 380 between Decatur and Bridgeport. But, through all of this, with God’s blessing, we continued to grow and flourish.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the J&A Automobile Services story. Tell us more about the business.
This is a family owned and operated business with over 50 years combined experience and has been around since 1986.
We are a complete facility, we do engine diagnostics, rebuilds, tune-ups, general repairs and maintenance.
We offer complete exhaust work, from repairs to complete stock replacement to performance systems.
We do complete front-end and all suspension work.
We have a complete radiator shop taking care of all across the board…foreign, domestic, passenger, Lt truck, heavy truck, commercial, industrial, agricultural. All sizes and types…. We offer sales and repair services.
We specialize in the cooling and heating systems.
We also do brakes and air conditioning.
We also, restore vintage, classic and antique vehicles. From minor maintenance to major repairs to complete restorations.
General Auto repair, No job is too small or too big.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I really don’t see any huge changes in the immediate future, within the next 15-25 yrs. there will be much more green cars and technologies out there.
