Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayra Espinal.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mayra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been in radio for seven years; it has been a fun ride to see how much I have grown and learned from the industry. Growing up, radio was my escape to a better place – it made me and still makes me smile. As a career, I get the opportunity to interact with and meet some amazing people from both in the industry and outside of it. The journey has not been easy but definitely has been worth it.
I started as a promotions assistant back in 2012, and since then I have taken advantage of every opportunity to grow professionally. I was promoted to my current role of Brand Advocate in April 2017. In this role, I am a part of the Brand Partnerships, Events and Experiences team for Entercom Dallas, overseeing the branding and marketing for three of our top properties in Dallas-Fort Worth, a top five market in the U.S. In 2019, I was named one of Radio Ink’s 30 and under superstars, it was an honor to be recognized for what I love to do.
Working in radio, you always have new challenges or projects arising, which I love because no two days are alike. I am glad I get to wake up every morning and come to a career that I love. I’m able to connect with millions of people each and every day through the power of radio.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth ride. Attending school and having a full-time job is not an easy task as a single mother. Homework is reviewed at midnight, kids need to be up and ready to go to school by 6:00 a.m., and then I need to leave for work before 7:00 a.m. traffic. It is a lot of work, but the love for my kids has helped me strive and prosper; they make me believe anything is possible. I have laughed and cried but it has all been worth it. Seeing how far I have come only gives me more motivation to continue this journey.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Brand Advocate at Entercom. I act as a liaison between the Sales, Programming and Promotions departments. I was also given an on-air opportunity on DALE! 107.5 HD3.
One of the brands I oversee is 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM), DFW’s largest sports talk audience and home of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. I facilitate ideation, coordination and execution of key events for the station, which allows me to work closely with DFW’s biggest athletes from the past and present. I am also the marketing and promotions point person for Entercom’s partnership with the Cowboys and Rangers.
Another brand that I am entrusted with is La Grande 107.5 (KMVK-FM), the home of DFW’s favorite regional Mexican music. Here I work closely with the morning show “El Chiquilin Todas Las Mañanas” to plan special performances in Entercom’s Verizon Artist Lounge, work with band managers and artists to deliver one-of-a kind experiences for our listeners.
Last, but most definitely not least, I also lead efforts on NewsRadio 1080 KRLD (KRLD-AM), a DFW icon and heritage station. This brand allows me to be high in touch with the community by identifying grassroots efforts, such as “Your Hometown” and “Brewing with Brounoff,” as well as our company’s sustainability initiative – 1Thing.
Recently, I was given an opportunity to serve as an on-air talent on DALE! 107.5 HD3 a RADIO.COM station. DALE! 107.5 HD3 is Entercom’s first Spanish pop station in Dallas-Fort-Worth with HD programming 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has audiences on both HD Radio, online and via the RADIO.COM app and website. DALE! 107.5 HD3 features Latino urban music’s biggest artists, including J Balvin, Maluma, Karol G, Anuel AA, Bad Bunny and more. There are currently more than 1.6 million HD radio-equipped cars in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
I am also proud to say that women in leadership roles are prevalent in my market. I am proud to be an employee of Entercom. They have given me the space and opportunity to grow professionally and have placed me in a leadership role, helping me shape my career for today and in the future.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely, the audio business is exploding and radio is a key part of that. I love working for Entercom because we are an audio business and content provider. RADIO.COM is the fastest growing digital audio app in the United States.
