Meet Rodney McNeil

Poetry.com changed my last name on a few of my poems, and in overall, I didn’t get the real recognition they had promised. It turned out to be a scam. Confused as to where I would go next with my writing, I lost sight of my passion to write. In the year 2018, I would gain enough courage to dig into my feelings about writing and creating again. Thanks to Amazon publishing, I could write and get my book published without going through a major publishing house. In 2019, I wrote a short-story titled, Ro’Man’s Is Dead, but didn’t copyright it officially until April 2020. May 15, 2020, I published my 1st literary piece, “Ro’Man’s Is Dead” on Amazon.com as a Kindle exclusive ebook, kicking off my career as an Indie Author.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. In fact, it has been quite challenging, working with little to no resources. I’ve come to find out that marketing and advertising has been one of my greatest challenges, aside from not having the notoriety of already famous authors.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As an author and creator, I strongly rely on the creative processes I have developed for myself. I’m most known for my poetic prose, especially in Ro’Man’s Is Dead. I’m most proud of the quality of work put into the content created. What sets me apart is my ability to create fictional pieces with real life meaning and impact on the reader. My current focus is to expand my reach, to gain the attention of more people and produce multiple projects. Within those projects I intend to do some genre-bending. My art is multidimensional and an ever-evolving piece of me.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I haven’t relied on luck as much as I would say, “It’s a blessing from God to be able to make certain moves others could only dream of.” That’s a factor in both my personal and business life. I believe in working out my path and taking chances. A strong network of contacts and resources increases a chance at success.
