Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Watson.
Chris, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a small town in Missouri where community and stories were valued. After being the first in all of my family tree to graduate college, I got married and moved to Wichita, KS. I worked for three Fortune 500 companies as a salesperson until 2008, when my father passed away.
This was a big turning point in my life, I quit my corporate job and became a teacher and an athletic coach. After eight years of working with high school students, I started my own company to teach, mentor, and train young people to achieve their goals.
I decided that I had no aspirations of becoming an education administrator so I published my first book and began speaking around the US.
I left Education and am back in the sales world while consulting, advising, and training through Watson Innovative Group.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Born into poverty. Small town obstacles. Dad died at a young age. Aunt passed away from a drug overdose. Lost job in 2009, filed for unemployment for a time.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Watson Innovative Group specializes in training and mentoring. WIG primarily has worked with three groups of people: Young HS Graduates determining their future, Young professionals navigating life after college, and professionals in need of development.
I am most proud of the legacies that we have created for so many professionals, helping them understand to live more intentionally.
We have worked with young professionals trying to determine the path they want to take in their lives without having to invest 100s of 1000s of dollars into a college degree that they won’t use.
We have partnered with The Sales Rebellion to work with salespeople and change the entire dynamic of sales in the world. We want to help salespeople strive to build kingdoms, legacies, and generational wealth. We don’t want salespeople to be only concerned with commission checks, quotas, and titles.
What were you like growing up?
I was inquisitive. Life of the party. I loved big groups. Always impersonating an actor or cartoon character. Extremely competitive. Dreams of influencing and impacting lives.
I was a natural-born leader in athletics. I am outspoken, honest, loyal, and bold. I am not necessarily a risk-taker, I am more analytical about opportunity cost.
I was always interested in human behavior, leadership, and how people interact with others.
