Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Tamayo.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been in the hair business for 15 years. Three years ago, I decided to go solo and start my business as The Parlour.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Owning your own business is always a tough path to carve for yourself, but I feel it’s the most rewarding. Nobody tells you when you start your own business, you’ll be working longer hours, and wearing many different hats.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a hairdresser. I’ve been in this industry for 15 years. I strive for perfection in everything I do. It’s my personal goal to maintain consistency and quality with every single client in my chair. I specialize in men’s cuts and curly hair but I can do it all.
What were you like growing up?
I was very much influenced by music and poetry. I loved trading mixtapes with my friends in high school. Punk was my main musical and style influence. The punk haircuts I saw from the 70’s I thought were so cool. I was especially influenced by the style of Sue Catwoman one of the Sex Pistols most famous groupies. I would go with friends on the weekend and shop thrift stores to emulate those styles. This is how I ended up with my passion for hair. Doing punk rock cuts on the front porch for myself and my friends at the time.
