Today we’d like to introduce you to Fawzi Yahya.
Fawzi, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In Middle and High School I was always known as the ‘creative’ guy whom everyone wanted on their team whenever there was a creative project. But personally, I never thought too much of it. I just thought it was a cool skill that I had. So, I went on to College pursuing a career in medicine like every other brown person I knew. That obviously didn’t work out too well. I struggled for three years and it was getting pretty frustrating. So, after some research and self-reflection I took a leap of faith into the creative field and I’ve never looked back.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not. It’s been extremely challenging and demanding. But that’s exactly what made it exciting for me. I loved the challenges because they pushed me to be the best version of myself. I’ve always strived to be the best in whatever I do so it was a beautiful struggle that always had an incredibly rewarding feeling. The struggles that I experienced included feeling isolated in my own world because I was the only person in the creative field from all the people that I use to hang with. That was weird change in my life. All of a sudden, I couldn’t have normal conversations with them anymore. Another struggle was feeling that I had to start from scratch. It was overwhelming to pursue a completely new career path that I’ve never really thought about before. It took a toll on me mentally, physically and emotionally. It felt very lonely the first few years.
Please tell us about your work.
I run a video production studio where I help companies/non-profit organizations/personal brands etc. tell their stories through video and promote their services/products. I’m known for making videos that evoke very strong emotions and creating a personal connection with the viewer. I’m very proud of that.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan is to slowly scale my business to a point where I can hire video editors/photographer/videographers etc. and work on bigger projects.
