Meet Alex Moushegian, Andrew Kiefer, Jose Martinez and Mark Holdsworth of ELECTRIC DREAMERS in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Moushegian, Andrew Kiefer, Jose Martinez and Mark Holdsworth.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alex, Andrew, Jose and Mark. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Our band ELECTRIC DREAMERS started around June of 2016, after Alex Moushegian got together with a person he made friends with named Jordan Castleberry at Guitar Center. Both of them were working full-time jobs in engineering-related fields and were excited to make some exciting alternative rock/blues music together, similar to the likes of The Black Keys and Nirvana. After Alex found Andrew through his full-time job, the band was able to play some really exciting shows in DFW after winning second place in the So What Battle of the Bands 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas. However, after Jordan left the group to start a family, the band started their rebuilding phase to release their debut EP.

With Alex, Jose, Andrew, and their new member Mark, ELECTRIC DREAMERS wanted to see what genres they could shatter, using their love of blues, alternative rock, and folk. Using their own recording equipment, and with the help of the mixing/mastering engineers at fifty50studios in Dallas, the band successfully released their debut EP “The Broken Outlet” in February of 2020. Having pulled inspiration from bands like Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Nirvana, and even Bob Dylan, the EP subjects on feelings of existentialism and angst as the band figures out who they are and exactly where they are supposed to be.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our road hasn’t been smooth, even in the slightest! Our biggest struggles have been losing members along the way, on top of finding the time to invest in our creative passion since we all work full-time jobs in engineering. Before our band lost Jordan, we had gone through a few bass players, so it was a blessing for us when we finally found Jose since he was so talented and dependable. Losing Jordan was a huge loss for our band also, as he had been one of the founders and one of the biggest contributors to our song-writing process, so it took us some time to find someone like Mark who could fill his shoes.

Another big thing that was hard for us was finally finishing our debut EP, “The Broken Outlet”. We had all played music, but had never recorded before. Our band had this idea for “The Broken Outlet” for quite some time, probably since the around the end of 2016. Having recorded our stuff ourselves, it was a steep learning curve to learn the formal process of recording, but having the help of the mixing/master engineers at fifty50 studios was a huge asset to our recording process. All of these struggles are exactly what our EP is about; trying to figure out who we are even when our creative outlet feels broken sometimes.

ELECTRIC DREAMERS -what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our band is an indie rock band that has played shows in and around DFW. What we are most proud of is the fact that we don’t really care to fit any mold; we just play music that we love, even though our roots our set into being an alternative rock band.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Alex: My favorite childhood memory was getting my first guitar at the age of 12. It was an Epiphone SG and it just gotten through the mail. My dad had helped me pick it out, and I remember when I first got it, I was so excited to show him as he hadn’t seen it yet. I learned my first song, Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple and was playing that riff right as he walked through the door from work, and he was so excited to hear me play.

Andrew: Long road trips with my family driving from Texas to New York to visit other family members.

Jose: One of my favorite childhood memories is spending holidays at my grandma’s house. After dinner, all the uncles would get out the guitars and start playing. I always thought that was the coolest thing and when I was old enough and knew enough to play with them, that was a really good feeling.

Mark: Being seven or eight year old and blasting Green Day when with friends and jumping on beds – a precursor to a love of music.
