Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Tamayo and Stephen King.
Jose and Stephen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Both Stephen and I transitioned from our previous careers into the fantastic world of Estate Sales and then quickly realized it’s enormous potentials. After working in the Estate Service Industry for a short time and studying the market here in Dallas, we saw a much greater opportunity for us to improve upon the experiences for both the client and the shopper. We took the plunge and began our adventure into small business ownership five years ago, opened our own Estate Liquidation company and haven’t looked back since!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not been a smooth road. Like any small business owners starting out, there were learning curves, scary and funny situations, enlightening moments and times where you think that you will literally lose everything. Fortunately, with perseverance and focus, those are things we overcame, learned from and things that made us stronger and better through the years. Stephen has always had a funny saying that goes. “We still have a roof over our heads and food in our bellies, so we must be doing something right!”
Likes and dislikes of Dallas: Some of our favorite things about Dallas. THE diversity of the neighborhoods that we get to service as well as the diversity of our clients and customers we have on a weekly basis. Dallas is such a fast-growing multicultural city with a bountiful wealth waiting to be tapped into by any small business. We couldn’t have imagined a better city to invent and invest ourselves into! Our job changes every week… a different drive, a different home and different STUFF! We learn something new each week and meet such great people! Though with all of Dallas’ popularity comes great growth and with growth comes more traffic and congestion. That’s one of the things we love, at least about Dallas. It’s all about the side streets but it can make for a long commute sometimes!
Dallas Estate Sellers – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are in the service industry of Estate Liquidation also known to most as Estate Sales. We literally can liquidate the contents of an Estate due to a number of various reasons, but not limited to death, downsizing, divorce, relocation, etc. From your furniture, clothing, cars and fine jewelry to your junk drawers. There are no items too big nor too small… we go in and sell it all!
We’re probably best known for our caliber of staging, customer service and attention to detail… we are always trying to leave a house feeling like a home for the sale dates. We are most proud that in such a short time in business, we have become one of Dallas‘s most respected and followed Estate Sale Companies. We’ve done regular 2000/3000 sqft homes to mansions topping 20,000 sqft. We’ve met music personalities, respected local officials and even had former First Ladies attend our sales. Again, we must be doing something right!
I have to say that our customer service sets us apart from all the others. From the moment you walk into one of our sales, you are greeted with a ‘Hello’ and a warm smile and when leaving, we make sure we take the time to thank you for your visit with us whether you bought something or not.
We are a completely digital/iCloud based register system, whether your transaction is cash or credit card based. While other companies are still using muffin tins as registers and only accept cash or check, they can also require you to bring your own bags/packaging material to wrap your purchases. We make sure that all your items are wrapped, bagged, or boxed, making your trip back to the car an easy one and that your items arrive safely to their final destination.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
