Conversations with the Inspiring Ann Jefferies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Jefferies.

Ann, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
JAG came about because I felt like there was a lack of stylish and on-trend jewelry that was affordable but well made and long-lasting. When looking at pieces I wanted to purchase but were out of my price range, I knew I could make similar things I was drawn to using better materials. As friends and strangers started purchasing items I was wearing, a store I love asked if they could carry my line. Things grew from there.

Several years later, I also felt like there was a lack of tops that were easy to wear, yet flattering in fabrics that were interesting… this is how our first top, the JANA was created.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have to admit, my road has been pretty smooth. I am a CPA and had the financial skillset to create costing worksheets and financial statements. I am very cautious and grew this business slowly. On the flip side, I don’t like to take many chances, so there are a lot of avenues untravelled. My main struggles are marketing and sales. JAG has gotten to a point that we need to expand brand awareness or sales will be stagnant. To address this, I have taken on a partner who is strong in those areas. We also share an eye for fashion and she has been a close friend for 25 years. We are very excited about what’s to come!

What should we know about JAG? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
JAG is a company focused on producing effortless and classic clothing and jewelry that can be worn in casual and more dressy settings. We use unusual and beautiful fabrics in silhouettes that flatter most body types. Our jewelry is made using 14kg or 14kg filled elements for long-lasting wear. We want our pieces to be comfortable, beautifully made in the USA at an attainable price point.

JAG seeks to inspire confidence in women of all ages because our clothing fits and wears well. We are focused on making women look and feel amazing by giving them classic pieces with a slight edge that you grab for week after week.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
My mother was a creative soul and was constantly making things, whether it was in the kitchen, sewing prom dresses, or other various crafts and activities. I think that is where my knowledge of how clothing should be made came from. Growing up that way also inspired me to look outside the box and trying new things.
