Meet Ashley Adams of From My Sole 2 Yours in Design District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Adams.

Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love expressing myself through art. As a child, I was introduced to poetry, music, painting, etc., and I utilized those avenues to express myself. It wasn’t until high school that I discovered Vashtie. At that time, I began to understand that I could convey my art with style while wearing sneakers, too! From standing in line at camp-outs to ensuring I had all the heat by securing a job at Finish Line, my closet and passion evolved. I went from laying out my fit at night to receiving requests to style my closest family and friends. And almost instantly, it hit me—“This is it! This is my “why.” As time progressed, my village has nurtured and encouraged me to bet on myself. And although I am usually very outgoing, I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my “work,” — word to Badu. So finally, here we are… During the day, I’m a Financial Risk Analyst but at night, I’m a Stylist and Image Consultant. And from styling your favorite DJs to the girl (or guy) next door, I’m in love with this area of opportunity to be in full creative control.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey up until now has been anything but easy. There is always adversity! Doubt and fear sometimes keep me up at night. Doubt that I’m not good enough and fear that my ideas won’t be received well. Not to mention, (I’m sure every creative will agree) the work is never done. When I complete any project, I always feel as if something could’ve been added or taken away. In this business, it’s also not enough to be good at what you do. You also have to be fluent and have an understanding of business acumen. It’s also important to have a support system to assist you in navigating protecting your brand, marketing to your audience, etc., so that involves research and forming the perfect team to support your dream.

Please tell us about From My Sole 2 Yours.
From My Sole 2 Yours was birthed from my love of art. It is my love letter dedicated to the Black community, focused on influencing our culture by providing digital content that satisfies many subcategories. Art imitates life, so the space I’ve created is for everyone. So with that being said, just like the culture, my brand and audience is multidimensional and reflects my multifaceted personality. Today’s blog post could be about financial literacy and spending habits that aren’t conducive to your budget. While tomorrow I could wake up and decide I want to record an unboxing along with a sneaker review. There’s something for everyone and that’s what I pride myself on—inclusivity. Most people feel like they have to find a “lane” and stay in it, I don’t subscribe to that idea. I accept that I’m passionate about more than one thing and I want to celebrate and showcase that utilizing my creativity. That’s my purpose, my gift and ultimate responsibility.

– And before I forget, I’m taking a leap of faith and I’ve decided to add a contact page to inquire about my styling services on the blog. Fashion is my passion—so think of me as your best friend in your head, your outfit inspiration on Instagram and Image Consultant in real life.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I owe my success to my tribe. The God in me. Wow, I got emotional typing that. Lately, I’ve been in a rebranding phase and due to current events and the current climate of the world, I’ve found it exceptionally difficult to remain motivated. And not just motivated to create but, I’ve struggled with getting out of bed some days you know—the gravity of it all has been a disruption to the little things. In those times, I remind myself that this gift is not my own. I owe it to myself to keep going but I also owe it to everyone around me who’s invested their time, shared their love and outpoured so much support. So, I’m forever grateful to my tribe for their unwavering support, encouragement and dedication to their commitment to me to ensure I succeed. And last but not least, I thank God for my gifts and His vision that He continuously gifts me.
