Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Parsinen.
Scott, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My former company got acquired and they gave me the option to move on with a small severance package rather than go through another acquisition transition (as I have been through a few). I spoke to my father, who had been my partner in a couple of previous ventures, and he agreed to join me on one more adventure.
I approached Dr. Vistasp Karbhari, former President of UTA (my Alma Mater), about my desire to start a business from scratch at UTA. He liked the idea and so began Parsinen Dental Ventures. We were going to acquire a dental laboratory and build from there but life happened and our partner who we were buying out no longer wanted the deal. So after a lot of work, we pivoted and started Cadmus Dental, our own lab and dental tech distribution company. We finally found our place and began competing in the clear aligner space (like Invisalign). Things were looking good for a strong 2020… then came COVID-19. Once again, we knew we had to pivot and moved quickly into PPE manufacturing and distribution. That’s where we are today; battling daily to build our company, help our community and make a difference.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Ha. Heck no. Is it ever? We’ve faced many family tragedies, illnesses, whether our own or our business partners. Very sad stuff. Things that have changed us as people and our WHY on who we are and want to be as a company. And now the Coronamess which shut down the dental industry for four months. Most people would’ve quit long ago. We’re just not quitters.
Cadmus Dental – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are known for customizing products. First, it was aligners. We are like the orthodontic Vistaprint. Same concept. We take a product and build your own brand. Now we are doing customized PPE. Real cutting edge stuff still utilizing 3D printing, which we have become masters at. We go above and beyond for our customers. I know it sounds schlocky and lots of people say that, but we really do.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Spent WAY less money. Really plugged into the Chamber of Commerce and DFW Startup community faster. You don’t have to spend big money on big lawyers etc. There are a great many people out there who are friendly to Startups. And there are many who will help you out from the goodness of their heart.
