Meet Ja’Nisha Robinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ja’Nisha Robinson.

Ja’Nisha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Ja’Nisha Robinson and I’m a native of Greenville, Mississippi, turned Dallas, TX resident. My friends would say I’m motivational, driven, genuine, a voice, a great listener, ambitious, persistent, intelligent, determined, hardworking, passionate, Not easily swayed yet open-minded, brave and strong. A realist yet non-judgmental. Calm. However, I would simply characterize myself as a vessel. Since the beginning, the vision has ALWAYS been bigger than me.

A mental health professional by day, and entrepreneur 25/8, I curated Love Cheveux on May 13th, 2018. Love Cheveux (initially dubbed WigsByJ) was created for the everyday girl/woman. My vision was and still is to create affordable units that emphasize the confidence in women that they often suppress. Units that will make women want to be who they truly are with complete confidence. Units that will allow a woman’s light to shine through her so much so, that it illuminates others. My brand is centered on self-love and empowerment of women.

I graduated with my master’s in counseling psychology in August of 2018 from The University of Southern Mississippi. I immediately got a job in my field. I loved my job, but it was causing so much stress! I decided to create #AllThingsMentalWithJacy as an outlet for myself as well as to provide an opportunity for others to have access to mental health tips and skills that would hopefully aid in coping with their day to day lives. As a mental health professional, as well as a person who also successfully conquers depression and anxiety daily, I saw a need in the community to create a space where individuals could get tips from a therapist that they could relate to.

After a struggle with finding a job in my field that would provide adequate pay. I moved to Dallas, TX. I was without a job for three months. During this time, my love for my business and purpose increased. I just recently relaunched both businesses on July 6th, 2020.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I moved, I didn’t have a job and I was still in debt. It took a month after I interviewed for a job position to officially offer me employment. After that, I still couldn’t begin until another month. I have a persistent depression. I had always kept myself afloat but for the first time in nine years. I felt as if I didn’t want to be here anymore. I just didn’t know what was working behind the scenes for me and I wanted a job right THEN. Throughout ALL of this time, the ONLY consistent money I was getting was through MY BUSINESS. It’s a REBIRTH of a brand built on love. This business helped me reinvent my life and look at myself in a different way. Now I can see the courage, resilience, bravery and persistence that others can see. Because of my businesses, I now believe in ME.

Now everything I’ve manifested is coming true. One funny thing is—one of the jobs I applied for a year ago emailed me a week ago asking me to apply again because “requirements are different.” But I’m walking in purpose and now MY requirements are different because I’ve LEVELED UP. Lifeworks in mysterious ways. When it’s your time to MOVE, you MOVE. I’ve manifested everything that’s happening for me today.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I think that what sets me apart from others is the fact that I’m genuine. Genuineness cannot be taught. In both businesses, I am transparent and completely myself without fear of others using my failures or fears against me. I see vulnerability and transparency as strengths and I communicate this heavily when I communicate my brand to potential consumers. I specialize in making machine-made units. These units are guaranteed to last four + years with proper care. (Love Cheveux) I offer an annual scholarship called “Changing The World One Mind At a Time.”

(AllThingsMentalWithJacy) I have three years of experience working with different diagnoses such as: schizophrenia, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, PTSD, ADHD, ASD, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, depression and anxiety disorders, selective mutism, borderline personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, etc. My theoretical orientations are person-centered and cognitive behavioral therapy. For the most part, I’m eclectic – meaning I pull from different theories based on the client’s individual needs. I am trained in CBT & TFCBT. I hope this provides more insight about my experience.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Resilience, Love, Consistency
