Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherman Clifton.
Sherman, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
First things first, I am a 20-year-old 3rd generation black man, son, and artist born in Flint, Michigan, raised in Allen, Texas. Secondly, MUSIC is in my DNA. It comes from all directions. My grandfather was a singer-songwriter back in the ’80s before he died (R.I.P.), my mother was also a singer-songwriter, and my grandfather on my father’s side was also a singer-songwriter. All of these people inspired me to make good MUSIC. My father instilled the HIP-HOP in me. He uses to always play Scarface, and Jay-Z, and I would be in the backseat with the speakers, feeling every single kick and snare.
He had a homeboy that was a HIP-HOP artist (R.I.P. Swift-D) who worked with Tupac, Biggie, and Jazzy Pha back in the ’90s. That man was the one that let me perform my first “show” for everyone at one of his family kickbacks. At three years old, rapping Lil Bow Wow, Remote control replacing a microphone, and moving around the room to get everyone else to rap with me, a star was born. From 8 to 16 years old, my father put me into recording studios and GOD opened doors for me to be able to sharpened my skills and become who I am today. From 17 years old to now, I’ve collaborated with some of my closest friends to make dope music, build recording studios, and curate everlasting, impactful events.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth? My life has no idea was that word is lol. There hasn’t been anything in my life that has been smooth but that just comes with the territory of being great, so I’ll take it. I’ve been through everything from family drug addiction to family alcoholism, drug dealing, adultery, being thrown out of homes, bouncing from house to house-school to school, instability, depression, anxiety, etc. It’s all torment. It’s all just to mess with the mind and it definitely has worked. My family will never be the same but we are still standing. I’m gonna show them that all of the bullshit we’ve gone through was for a reason. To feel more of what I’m saying, you can hear some of what I’ve been through in my latest project called ‘Made by Dreamers’ on all platforms.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
SHERM STX is a brand. A brand that stands for truth. Raw, uncut truth. In a world where realness seems to be cut thin, we need people that aren’t afraid to be unapologetically themselves. My music might be different vibes and different sounds but within those songs, you will hear my truth and feel the passion that comes from my soul. That right there makes me a leader for my people. That’s what I’m most proud of. Always being me and not being scared of what society thinks. That’s what sets me apart from everyone else.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the music industry, I can definitely see real, thought to provoke, music coming back around. It’s hard to say where I see the industry going honestly, but I can say where I see myself going. I see myself being on tour, touching thousands of people everyday, releasing music that lasts forever, through every era. Music that makes a difference in the minds of people from all walks of life. I see my family and friends being able to conquer their wildest dreams. Last but not least, I see financial freedom. Breaking generational curses and creating generational wealth. All while being connected to GOD more than ever.
