Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeisha Fields.
Lakeisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Entrepreneurship had been dangling its head around me all my life. My mother was a passionate nanny and domestic worker for years. She controlled her work hours and was always able to pour into my siblings and I on a daily basis. Entrepreneurship gave her this opportunity. Although I didn’t know this then, I know it now. This is when Magnolia Speaks Speech Therapy Center was born.
After working with varied companies in the Dallas FortWorth area and being encouraged by parents of my clients to practice privately, I established Magnolia Speaks Speech Therapy Center, PLLC in 2014 with the goal of providing elite, client-driven therapy.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been challenging to start a business without using any loans or outside resources. It was a struggle to save personal funds to ensure that the business had working capital while waiting on the reimbursements from commercial insurance. It was a struggle at the beginning, but I appreciate it now because it allows more profit for the business.
Please tell us about Magnolia Speaks Speech Therapy Center.
Magnolia Speaks Speech Therapy Center PLLC was founded in 2014 with a mission to provide elite client-focused and culturally relevant therapy. Magnolia Speaks is comprised of licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologists who provide comprehensive evaluations and services for children, adolescents, young adults, adults and their support systems in the Dallas/Fort Worth and surrounding areas.
I also staff Speech-Language Pathologists to varied school districts, clinics, and organizations to provide services and/or consultations. My vision is to not only provide effective and holistic therapy to the clients but to ensure that family members, para professions, and speech-language pathologists are equipped, knowledgeable, and sensitive to those with special needs. This sets Magnolia Speaks apart from those companies who are focused only on providing direct speech therapy.
Within the last couple of years, Magnolia Speaks has provided a platform for children to be treated holistically through family and community trainings which is such a rewarding part of running a business. I have participated in and hosted multiple events to increase community involvement and advocacy for those with communication disorders. Magnolia Speaks was recently recognized as a Mom-Approved Wellness Provider in the DFW Child Magazine August issue, which is evidence that we are leaving a positive impact on the lives of the patients and community in an effective way.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Well, that’s hard because I don’t think I have a single memory because there are so many. My favorite memories from childhood are the times spent with my mother, whether it was preparing holiday dinners or giving away homemade cookies and/or popcorn to family and friends. My mother had the heart to serve others, and I know for sure I get that from her and I carry it with me even in my business.
