Meet Madi Calhoun and Holden Foster of Prime Social in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madi Calhoun and Holden Foster.

Madi and Holden, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Prime was born out of frustration with our careers. Madi was coming off a successful year in theatre and film but feeling burnt out, Holden was feeling the stresses and unpredictability of freelancing. We both have extensive backgrounds in the visual and performing arts. In February of this year, Madi texted Holden saying, “Hey, we should start a creative agency.” We had our first business meeting that evening, and haven’t looked back.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course, as you know, the Covid-19 pandemic hit full-force just a month after we began to plan. We had planned to announce our launch in March and begin seeking clients mid-April, but we quickly found that small businesses just weren’t wanting to spend any extra money at the time. So we re-strategized. Since then, we’ve focused on growing our brand and engaging with our community. Rather than spending too much time marketing ourselves and our services, we’ve chosen to uplift and highlight our favorite small businesses in the community. We put out a free bimonthly subscription where we share what we know and are learning. We treat our online presence as we would a client’s- what better way to show what we can do? We plan to seek out clients soon, hoping that the reputation we’ve begun to build will serve us well.

Prime Social – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We believe you as a brand or business need three key elements to your online presence: a communicative website, engaging social media content, and the captivating imagery to pull it all together. Holden’s background is in film, photography, graphic design, art, and music. Madi’s background is in acting, music, hair/wig/makeup work, and social media marketing. We each have other passions that give us additional superpowers: for instance, Holden loves finding small local businesses to patronize, and Madi has a deep love for all things organization.

Prime is different than your typical online marketing or creative agency because our highest goal is to educate business owners. We’ll happily take your social media accounts and your email campaigns and control them for you, but it’s more important to us that you, especially as a small business owner, feel confident in your abilities to market your business online. Holden can take some killer imagery for you with his fancy cameras and equipment, but we can also show you how to take fantastic shots with your iPhone and editing apps. When we learn, our followers, subscribers, and clients learn. We love our community of local businesses and are proud to give back however we can.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We have so many plans and dreams floating around. Do we want to create a publishing company? Run our own production company? Buy a huge studio/office space where we can serve clients and run photoshoots and install a fancy coffee bar? Yes, but… For now, we are looking forward to marketing our services more intentionally, taking on our first few clients, and partnering with other creators. Sometimes we have to pull our heads down out of the clouds and focus on the here and now. Rome wasn’t built in a day, ya know?
