Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Swann.
Cameron, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
So Dead Battery originally started off as a poem addressing my depression at 19 and how I would never allow anything or anybody to drain me out my energy. Then I was told from my Professor Teresa Dowell-Vest that I should make it a YouTube series. After that, I decided to spread more love about depression and mental health by making it a clothing line to address the issue. Dead Battery is all about keeping your energy high and charged up no matter what you are going through. Stay charged up!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, it hasn’t because when I started, it was only my friends Azarria, Alexander, and I making the shirts at PVAMU. We would struggle to try to get the shirts made while also maintaining classes and school work/activities. The process became easier when my friend Bella help me recruit a team to balance everything out so it can be less stressful.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dead Battery Clothing – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Dead Battery caters to many people who deal with depression or any type of mental health situation. The goal is to have make sure that everybody’s mental health is strong. I am a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. I am known for starting a monthly group called ‘Hug me, Brother, Hug me, Sister.’ The purpose of the group is to make sure everyone at PVAMU is mentally good going into this new school year with COVID-19. I am proud that I was able to finally get recognition of Dead Battery, and see the smiles on everybody’s face. I believe my effort in improving mental health sets me apart from others.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to graduate college in May 2021 and continue to promote Dead Battery as well as start my career field. I plan on also finding new ways to keep promoting mental health and continue to use ‘Hug me, Brother, Hug me Sister’ bigger than ever.
