Today we’d like to introduce you to DeShawn Wright.
DeShawn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is DeShawn Wright and my stage name is D.Wright. I’m 29 years old and I’m from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I began doing music at as a child after being influenced by my father. He’s been a rap/hip-hop artist ever since I can remember. I would always write versus ad eventually started to experiment with recording as a preteen. I never seriously attempted to make a career out of my music until a few years ago. I released my first mixtape/project in 2018 titled “Tuning,” which was my debut as far as being available on all major streaming platforms. I took a two-year hiatus from releasing any more music due to being in school for audio production and also during those two years, my son was born, which added to my reasons for staying away from releasing any music because I knew my focus was elsewhere at the time. I’m officially back as I gear up to follow up my first release of 2020, which was a single titled “O.” I have a new single titled “Motion (prod. by DesVonne)” that will be available on all streaming platforms by the second week of August 2020.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth ride with obstacles ranging from family and financial issues to battling internal wars while fighting depression caused by growing up in poverty-stricken areas and dealing with the loss of my firstborn daughter at an early age as well. As other deaths in the family. Taking my time to enroll in and graduate from Full Sail University with a Bachelors’s Degree in Audio Production was also another huge obstacle I’ve encountered and it was a goal of mine that I’m proud to have accomplished.
Tell us more about you. What are known for, what do you specialize in? What are you most proud of as a music artist?
The main business I plan to promote is my personal brand of D.Wright, the music artist. I am a hip-hop/rap artist and songwriter. I currently pay the bills with my company Lyfe Media which offers services such as graphic design and freelance photography/videography work and I specialize in business logos and cover art designs. I’m most proud of the fact that I created Lyfe Media out of a need for such services for my main business, which is my music career and I now have started a successful business that I also personally use as a customer to advance my dream business. I think the fact that I am an all-around artist and content creator gives me a creative edge ad sets me apart from others.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I definitely feel like your city is a great fit for a business like mines because your city is full of creative people that are invested into their own dreams and goals and would love to take advantage of the services I offer. I do recommend this city as a great starting point for someone just getting started.
