Today we’d like to introduce you to April Nickleberry.
April, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all began when my aunt (Ruth Doggett) would make lemon pies for every holiday we celebrated. One day I decided to take the recipe and recreate new ideas (strawberry, blueberry, just to name a few). That is when the name was born Delectable Sweets. As the business grew, I started adding to the menu with my own cooking dishes and began cooking for DeShon’s Celebrity Catering. I have always wanted to increase the menu as well as introducing new items. That is where I came up with seasoned crackers called Crackalicious. It is a buttery seasoned cracker where you can eat with just about anything. As the business continues to grow, I grow as well to customize the business while serving delectable food.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth transition. Some of the obstacles have been working a full-time job with more than 40 hours a week whichhas been exhausting. Not to mention COVID 19. Recently I have been able to ship the product of Crackalicious to customers in order to remain relevant.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Delectable Sweets – what should we know?
Delectable Sweets is my baby that has been birth into a wonderful business. The company specializes in a non-baked desserts and has morphed into providing dishes that are delectable to the soul, such as my cheesy crab grits. My most proud creation is the seasoned cracker that has taken off. As one of my customer’s indicated, “a cracker shouldn’t taste like this.” What sets Delectable Sweets apart is the fact it is ever-changing to its customers to meet their goofy needs.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Authenticity. If the customer you serve knows you are authentic, it will be shown in the food/desserts you provide.
