Mary, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My background is in education. After seven years spent teaching in an elementary school classroom, I wanted to be a stay-at-home-mom when my first son was born. In this same time frame, I learned about electricity deregulation and the potential to create residual income as an energy broker in Texas.
Starting out, I knew very little about how to sell the different types of electricity services I am capable of providing as a broker. Over time, through consistent effort, desire to succeed and confidence in the future of my business, I have learned what works and what doesn’t. I have become experienced in the ever changing digital and online marketing space with specialties in Google tools, social media marketing and search engine optimization (SEO).
Today, I own and operate www.quickelectricity.com, a leading electricity rate comparison website for energy providers in Texas, which enables my customers to shop and compare energy rates, plans, solar options, commercial offerings and more.
Has it been a smooth road?
Growing Quick Electricity is my passion. I have had to really push through some times where revenues were low and my marketing ideas were not working, or not working fast enough. I have been diligent with consistently spending time working on my business, often working after my children go to bed.
There has also been a lot of trial and error and a lot of learning experiences. Sometimes I’ll sink hours into an idea that simply does not work, but every failed idea is a learning opportunity. I spend a lot of time measuring the effectiveness of various tactics and promotional implementations, both the ones that work incredibly well, and the ones that flop, so at least I can figure out why they are working or not working.
Overall, my biggest challenge has been outsourcing professionals that I can trust to help grow my brand. Web marketing is a saturated space and the details are highly technical. I’ve worked with some of the best marketers around and have been fortunate to gain a deep understanding of the differences between high quality and mediocre SEO.

I am working to capture as much of this audience as possible. I am also poised to optimize when the rest of the state begins to deregulate electricity in places like San Antonio, Lubbock, Austin, Amarillo and El Paso.
Eventually every household and business in Texas will have a choice in energy providers. Everyone needs electricity and everyone wants to get a good deal; my website and skill set as a digital marketer are honed in on providing these things to consumers.
