Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Jackson.
Derrick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I come from a family of entrepreneurs. My mom is a successful black business owner herself. Once I saw her work ethic, her determination, that inspired me to open up my own business. I wanted to do something that I had a passion for but was different. I noticed there was more of an opportunity to expand men’s clothing outside of urban wear. So that’s when I created Derrick Jackson Fashion, a men’s casual clothing line.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When starting a business or even running a business, there are always challenges. I’ve learned that’s just part of the process. I don’t know any business owner small or big that hasn’t experienced any challenges. One of the biggest struggles that I had and I’m going to be honest with you was the motivational part. Everyone thinks their business will boom overnight, and I’m here to tell you, it doesn’t work like that. Like I said before, its a process. You have to put the work in to see results.

Derrick Jackson Fashion is a casual men’s line designed to showcase the unique but fashionable look for men of all ages. I had recently launched my “Like Father Like Son” line. The name alone speaks for its self. It represents that Father/Son bond. That line is what I’m most proud of. My “Like Father Like Son” Brand speaks to my generation as well as the youth. The younger generation is watching us, so we must lead by example and what a better way of doing that by introducing them to Derrick Jackson Fashion.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Prayer, Goals, Support from family and friends. Willingness to accept failure but determine to never give up and motivation.
