Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Leach.
Austin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hello! I am a songwriter from DFW. I’ve been writing and performing since I was 17 (now 26). I’ve got a new single called Daydream that is a collaboration with artist Indian Run that comes out on August 21st, 2020. We were able to do this completely remotely.
He lives in New Jersey and I live here. We wrote, recorded it and even did a music video all completely apart. We essentially recorded vocals in our closet. With everything shutting down… lots of shows getting canceled and much uncertainty with what music would look like… we found a silver lining. We wrote a summer song that we hope brings a little bit of joy back to people’s hearts and heads. So whether you’re driving down the road with the windows down or you are with your person, this song will find you there. Taking inspiration from Bon Iver, Lany, etc.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Recording at home was daunting at first. I’m used to being in a studio with a great team… this time, I was on my own. I had to learn a lot quickly, but the song was so much fun and came very naturally to us that I got over the anxiety pretty quickly. In some ways, it was easier. We had no deadline, no studio time we were racing to get through, nothing like that. We could kind of just take our time. The biggest obstacle was probably the distance… we weren’t sure how to make a music video but we found away!
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’ve been writing songs since I was a kid. I’ve been performing all over the US for the last couple of years. From Dallas to LA to Chicago to NYC… It’s been a journey of how to really do this thing. How to write songs that not only you love but that also connect with strangers all across the country. I think I write songs from a different place… I write songs only from places I’ve been and experienced. I’m not trying to write the next hit… I’m trying to write a song that hits someone in the heart. Whether it be a love song or a song about heartbreak. I just want people to be able to picture themselves in between the lyrics.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve found myself in many situations I wasn’t sure I was ready for or qualified to be in. But one way or another, I have had much favor in the way of working with some very talented people, befriending some amazing folks, and getting great wisdom from people who have been doing this a lot longer than I have. I thank God every day for all the opportunities I get to go and experience.
