Meet Kayla White of Lifeologie Counseling in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla White.

Kayla, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey to becoming a therapist began when I changed my major in undergrad. I started my college career as a Charles Bukowski loving English major with ambitions of becoming a publishing editor, but as I got closer to graduation, something didn’t feel quite right about that career path. Something was missing. I signed up for a few psychology courses to fulfill my electives requirement and changed my major to psychology soon after. I was in love with the course material and knew I had to do something in the field.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I’m originally from West Virginia and chose to attend graduate school at the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton. The decision to leave my home and my family wasn’t easy. Then graduate school itself was tough. My professors really challenged me in order to make sure I was prepared to help people in their most vulnerable moments. There are a lot of requirements beyond getting a master’s degree to become a licensed therapist. You have to complete 3,000 supervised hours after you graduate- this typically includes a mixture of unpaid internships and working multiple jobs to get diverse experience on top of attending weekly supervision meetings with a licensed supervisor.

We’d love to hear more about your practice.
I am a certified clinical trauma professional (CCTP) and specialize in helping people who have experienced trauma, chronic stress, and mood disorders (like anxiety or depression). I work with clients of all ages and backgrounds and am LGBTQIA+ informed and affirming. I use techniques that go beyond talk therapy by teaching clients somatic techniques to soothe and heal their nervous systems and using EMDR, which is a way of helping your brain process traumatic memories so they no longer feel distressing.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think that Frisco is the perfect location for any business. It’s a very community-oriented city with business owners who are excited to help each other in any way possible.
