Today we’d like to introduce you to Anessa.
Anessa, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got to where I am today by taking a leap of faith and trusting God. I started cosmetology school in January of this year and at that time, I was working in childcare. During the weeks prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I started to do clients here and there on the weekend to start promoting myself. Once the pandemic hit, I was out of work so doing hair became my only source of income. I posted pictures and promoted my work on social media while also receiving new clients through word of mouth. I started my path towards the hair industry by attending Ogle School for their cosmetology program.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been easy at times. It’s been an uphill battle. Some weeks I’m booked to capacity and other weeks, I’m not. The pandemic caused some struggles but it has also been a blessing in disguise.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gem’s Touch by Anessa J story. Tell us more about the business.
Gem’s Touch by Anessa J specializes in healthy hair care and styles. I perform Traditional Box Braids, Knotless Braids, Children Braids and an assortment of other types of braids. I also do a silk press and hair sew-ins. I am proud of the work that I do and it’s very important to me that each one of my clients leave feeling beautiful and satisfied with healthy hair. I am also in the test phase of developing my own Hair Growth Oil, which will promote hair growth, scalp moisture and a definite hair glow.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My goal for the next 5 to 10 years is to be a hair salon owner/operator with an onsite daycare facility. I want my clients to be able to bring their children with them if necessary and leave them in capable hands at the daycare while being able to enjoy a relaxing experience of great hair care and not having to worry about their children and the care of them while being serviced.
