Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Stubbs.
Liz, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am an RYT 500 (500 hour registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance) and in the early days of teaching, I would often hear people say, “I want to do yoga but I don’t know where to start,” or “I want to do yoga but I’m not flexible,” or “I want to do yoga but I can’t do a headstand.” It made me realize that many people may be confused about what yoga actually is and what yoga means. I believe there is a type of yoga for everyone, and I wanted to bring a service to my community to help those who were looking to begin a practice but just didn’t know where to start.
I created a website called What’s My Yoga? to help people do just that; find their yoga. The website offers an easy online quiz that a person can fill out and receive (via email) a free personal assessment on recommended yoga types and where and how to start. I feature local teachers and studios, list workshops, provide descriptions of common yoga types, and provide other additional resources for new and seasoned yogis. The idea for What’s My Yoga? was born out of a Personal Growth Project that was required for my second level of teacher training. I consider it karma yoga (yoga of action) and offer all of the resources on the site totally free. Regardless of where a person lives, through the What’s My Yoga? Quiz I can give recommendations for yoga and how to find classes in their area.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge has been rolling my site out in the midst of a Pandemic. Yoga studios and teachers have suffered greatly, and I have seen yoga teachers losing their jobs and studios closing their doors. Teachers have also had to rethink how they teach as they transition to online teaching. I have been focusing on supporting those teachers and studios while trying to drive new students their way.
Please tell us about What’s My Yoga?.
What’s My Yoga? exists entirely for the yoga student and yoga studios and teachers. I am proud to support the yoga community and to do it free of charge.
