Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Slayton.
A Midlothian TX native, Dustin worked as a lead diesel mechanic and supervisor for 23 years at large companies such as Caterpillar, Komatsu and TXI. After being fired from a company due to changes, he decided to take an entirely new career path to align with his passions and purpose. Dustin is passionate about giving men confidence and tools to be successful leaders in all that they do and believes it starts and ends with Faith, Family and Freedom.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. The business delayed opening for a year while we had a contract for a space in a building that was supposed to be completed by our opening date. When coming close to that time, we found out that the city had never even received building plans for that space, so we withdrew the contract and had to hunt and plan for somewhere else. That is when God placed us together with Crafted Image. We transformed an empty and open space to the split shop design that it is now. We built a mobile barbershop trailer where we set up at events such as motorcycle gatherings and our local wine walk, but during COVID, it was stolen off the shop property. The last three years has been nothing but ups and downs, but we hold strong knowing that we will come out on the other side.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Our goals are to expand into a second location, although we are not sure where that is yet. We want to travel, and bring the energy of the shop to more rural parts of the country where they may not have the ability to experience what we provide where they live. Continue to build the Lucky’s Barbershop brand. Possibly collaborate with local community college/cosmetology program to assist students to earn their Barber license.
