Today we’d like to introduce you to Daley Biggers and Josh Samford.
Daley and Josh, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
This company is a co-ownership between myself and my high school friend, Josh. After graduating high school, we bartended at several different bars and speakeasy’s around Dallas while we went to college down separate career paths. I graduated from college as a Registered Nurse, working in the hospital and continued to work as a bartender part-time until finding a passion for mixology. I then became a certified mixologist and crafted my skills while continuing to work as a nurse in the hospital. Josh finished his degree in finance and worked for a funds management company while continuing to bartend on weekends at various locations.
We realized that we had a passion for producing quality drinks and experiences for not only our friends during get-togethers or behind a local bar, but on a larger scale. We built Liquid Love Co. from scratch, asking dozens of industry colleagues questions on regulations and helpful tips. Being a mixologist, I honed in on the aspect of craft cocktail creation. This is one thing that we pride ourselves on and something that we promise our customers. That they will get the best craft cocktails at their event. We use only the freshest of ingredients and have perfected a handful of house simple syrups with various flavors.
Through the years of going to weddings and big events, we realized that there is little thought or effort put into planning the bar experience, even when a professional company caters the bar services. We devote our time and energy to personalizing the liquid experience for each client, down to the most intricate details. We push to change the way event bar services are portrayed currently, as last-minute and low effort add-ons to an event.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been some struggles with our business, like any business. Some of the struggles with an alcohol catering business is that there are no straight answers on liquor laws and catering of alcohol regulations. When you ask industry colleagues and venues, you will receive different answers to each question about laws and regulations. When asking the TABC for assistance and guidance on the best way to follow these numerous laws and regulations, many different (no so clear cut) answers were given. We finally maneuvered our way over those “speed bumps”, but it really held up our progress as a small business.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a liquid catering company, providing full-service bar experiences. Our specialty is our craft cocktails, which we love to provide during weddings and events for a signature cocktail. We offer an exclusive cocktail menu, in which we change through the seasons and offer personalized cocktails that we build for our clients at their event. One thing that we are known for is our attention to detail. We offer the most personalized experience that you will see for event bars. We strive to bring more than just a bartender to your event. We bring a liquid experience you’ll remember. That is who we are at our core.
The thing that sets us apart from others in our industry is our defiance against artificial flavors and sweeteners. You will notice that many businesses offering bar catering services will use sweet and sour mix, margarita mix, pre-mixed juices, etc. We will always use fresh ingredients from; fresh-squeezed citrus and fruit, freshly picked herbs, fresh vegetable, and house-infused simply syrups. The differences in taste and texture that you get from using fresh ingredients versus pre-mixed and artificial ingredients is immaculate. Even when we batch cocktails for a big event, we squeeze each lime one at a time, cook syrups one batch at a time, and cut our fruits and vegetables one at a time, to achieve unmatched taste and freshness in our cocktails.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very much involved with sports, as was my business partner, Josh. We both played football together from elementary through high school. We would go outside in the mud and play football in the neighborhood in the mud for hours upon hours. One thing that we loved was being outside. Josh and I lived right down the road from each other and we would ride 4-wheelers through trails in the woods until we ran out of gas. There wasn’t a day that went by where we stayed inside for more than a few hours.
As we grew up, we put all that energy into working seven days a week and doing what we had to do to make it through while going to college. Coming from a small town, we were equipped with the work ethic of a few around us in the city. That has always set us apart from others in our eyes. As far as personality goes, we both had the most outgoing personalities. We talked to everyone and made at least a few jokes every minute of a conversation. Being the goofiest and funniest guys in the room was our forte.
