Today we’d like to introduce you to Markista Northern.
Markista (Kista) Northern was born and raised in South Bend, IN and became a DFW native ten years ago. At a young age, she was faced with many obstacles that many African-Americans families face on a daily basis. One of those obstacles was becoming a teenage mother. At the age of 15 years, she gave birth to her first daughter, which was very challenging at times. Although she was forced to quit high school, she did not let that stop her from going back and pursuing her dreams for her future. She then graduated from Penn High School and is currently pursuing her nursing career at Lake Michigan College. Kista now has four children that she absolutely adores, still juggling everyday life working two jobs, running her own company, whilst caring for her babies. However, none of this would be possible without the loving support of husband Derek pushing her through those hard times that comes along. While helping others is what she loves to do, makeup and beauty has always been her true PASSION as a young girl. She’s a jack of all trades. Kista started EyeKisses Collection about five years ago.
Quality and affordable lashes are major focuses for her as well as for her customers and she is always mindful of using cruelty-free products. These beautiful lashes and their unique names were inspired by her nickname “KISTA.” She plans to take EyeKisses Collection as far as it can go. Not, for just for her benefit but for every woman that is struggling in any aspect of life. She wants to show women everywhere that things happen, life happens but giving up and quitting is NEVER an option. No matter what your situation may look like God’s promises still stand. No one can stand in your way or stop you… ONLY YOU. Keep GOING, Keep Pushing, Keep Praying, and, most importantly, NEVER QUIT.
Has it been a smooth road?
My struggles started long before I even became a mother. My mother was on drugs for as long as I could remember. As the only child on my mother’s side, I was forced to take on many responsibilities as a child just to survive that I really should not have had too. I have dealt with all types of abuse mental, physical, sexual there were many lonely nights. I had cried, asking god, why me? Why my mother? After becoming a mother at 15 yrs old, I was already paying bills in full with no government assistance. I am a survivor, a fighter. I made a promise that I would do anything in my power to protect and raise my child up better than what I felt like I had. At 15 years old raising a baby literally alone was my motivation to keep going. Heaven (my daughter) was my strength. There were times I felt like no one was there for me but I knew I was going to be there for her no matter what. Today she’s 18 with no kids in her senior year of High School it hasn’t been easy but I thank god daily. I want to show her and the rest of my children that hard work pays off. I’m teaching them that whatever they believe in is possible.
