Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaycee Le’l.
Specializing in healthy hair care, Kaycee Le’l has been a licensed hairstylist for over 20 years. She is centrally located in Uptown Dallas at HoneyDo’ Hair Lounge, where she is the owner.
The little girl who would literally sit in her room and play with dolls hair all day found herself in a cosmetology classroom at Skyline High School in Dallas, TX. At the age of 17, Kaycee received her cosmetology license and began what would become her career as an entrepreneur. As a student instructor graduate of Paul Mitchell The School, Kaycee is also a Cosmetology Instructor. She has taught at both Paul Mitchell The School Arlington and Dubiski Career High School in Grand Prairie. She is currently teaching two Intro to Cosmetology classes at Waxahachie High School.
Kaycee has had some of the best training from some of Dallas’ top stylists, including Joey B. and Freddie J (Chris Rocks ‘Good Hair’). She has also taken extensive color, cutting, and extensions classes with some of the industry’s leading hair companies like Toni and Guy Hairdressing, Nairobi, Basics, Paul Mitchell, Wella, and DreamCatchers. She has had opportunities of styling DJ Spinderella of the iconic group Salt-N-Pepa, News Reporter Amanda Fitzpatrick of CW33, and Entrepreneur and nationally-recognized speaker Gail Warrior. Kaycee is truly passionate about the beauty industry, educating, and making others look and feel beautiful.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur is never easy but it is so fulfilling. In the early years, the struggle was building a clientele of loyal clients. I had to learn specifically what I wanted my clientele to look like as far as what services I wanted to offer. There was once a time when I provided all types of services-even those I was least comfortable with. It took some time but I was able to establish a clientele that provided me the lifestyle I wanted to live.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the HoneyDo’ Hair Lounge story. Tell us more about the business.
At HoneyDo’ Hair Lounge, we offer an array of services. From those clients who desire to straighten their natural curls to those who’d like to add extensions for volume or length-HoneyDo’ has you covered. We also retail hair products and extensions in salon and online.
I am extremely proud of the growth of the salon and just very grateful for the doors being able to remain open for the length of time it has been open. I am thankful for all of the many lives not only I’ve touched but that have blessed me as well.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am truly blessed and I know it’s only because of the good Lord. He has truly seen me through some difficult times and I owe it to him to live out my purpose. As a hairstylist, I am also what some would call a counselor-a listening ear to those who may not feel comfortable talking to others. I have been there through some trying times in my clients’ lives. I’ve seen babies grow up and go to college, clients get married and/or divorced, and many career opportunities for clients.
Through the tough times, COVID-19 has brought as an entrepreneur, I’ve had clients truly be there for me in ways I’d never imagine. From sending love donations via Zelle to lunch money via CashApp, they looked out for me during those times. Luck is not a term I’d even use. Blessed is exactly what I am.
