Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Antillon.
Gabriel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was doing mortgages and in 2008, after the market crashed, I got divorced and was looking for anything to do for work. I saw that construction was the only thing keeping people busy. So I started to learn and my first move was to leave Dallas, TX to go to New Orleans Louisiana to work the Katrina storm. I drove over there and started working for my self. I learned a lot about construction and restoration. I was doing all the insurance claim from the storm. I realize that there was an opportunity when my first month, I made $400,000.
After three years of working the insurance claims in Louisiana, I came back to Dallas, Texas after, I saw that work was slowing down in Louisiana and started doing some flips in Dallas. Started with $60,000 on a small residential flip and worked my way up to $1,000,000 flips. After many flips and projects that I was hired to do as a contractor, I started focusing on the commercial side of it. Started doing commercial retail stores and restaurants. Now I been focusing on High rises and hotels to build out.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every business goes thru lessons. These lessons are valuable cause its shaping the structure of how to conduct business. I didn’t grew up learning construction all my life it was a moment of desperation and opportunity. I learned cause it was the only thing that was active making money and demand was there to be busy. I learned about partnerships, about your own construction workers’ loyalty, clients’ loyalty and also how to protect your self with lawyers and contracts.
Construction is a dirty, cloudy business. If you don’t have the right tools, you can lose a lot of money. Your own workers can steal from you and rip you off. Your own business partners on that project can steal from you and leave you dry with problems instead of solutions. So there is always struggles. People don’t show their struggles. They show their success and achievements.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fix, Hold & Flip Construction LLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I own Fix, Hold & Flip Construction LLC. It’s a construction company that helps me Fix homes, hold them as rentals or allows me to flip it if the markets is perfect for sale.
I specialize on insurance restoration but I am known to do remodels or new constructions. I am most proud of the company structure to make sure the client always gets the best out of the deal. What sets me apart of many other construction companies is that I put my work where my mouth is. I don’t ask for upfront money or 50% down for me to buy materials. I am self-funded and I build and do the work before they even write me a check. After I build it and they inspect up to their standards, then I expect payment. That’s the only way I work and that set me apart from all these companies that need a down payment to do their work they are supposed to do.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking to move more into the commercial side of the construction. Retail, hotels, restaurants, etc. I feel that commercial is where big money is at. I am looking to concentrate on the bigger jobs.
