Meet Taylor Foss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Foss.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started getting into the world of photography in the last couple of years. It started when my Grandparents gave me a Canon 70D as a gift when I graduated from high school back in 2016. I really did not use it much after I got it until my junior year of college. During my Spring semester, I went to study abroad in Heidelberg, Germany. I took hundreds of pictures of all of the places I visited, such as Dublin, Prague, Berlin, and Amsterdam. I also started taking portraits of people, which, as it turned out, I really enjoyed doing. I enjoy being able to capture the emotion of others and have them express their creativity through poses.

In my free time, I would spend hours on YouTube learning how to compose a shot with a good background, how to be creative with how to pose the model, and how to edit pictures. When I got back to the United States, I continued to take portraits of my friends, but I wanted to take my work to the next level, so I asked my co-worker’s girlfriend, Laura (@Hyphenphotography), if I could tag along on a shoot of hers and she said yes. After that shoot, I wanted to do more. I started to reach out to local models in the area and I have been doing this ever since. I have been taking portraits for over a year now and I still love it and want to continue pursuing and learning this hobby that I am so passionate about.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have not been easy at all. There are many times where I constantly think the work I put out is not good enough. I am a perfectionist, so I work and revise until I believe it is the best I can do. I constantly compare my work to others and continue to improve as I learn. Even though I am my biggest critic, I can usually find something good in every shoot I take.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am currently developing my photography business, where I would like to specialize in senior portraits, couple shoots and eventually wedding photography. I love to build a personal connection with the people I work with so they will feel comfortable to look their best working with me. My main goal is to make people smile with the finished product.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood was traveling with my parents to see amazing places around the United States. I have been to places such as the beaches of Lake Superior in Minnesota to the winding roads of the Hana Highway in Hawaii. I have always been a person who loves to travel. I have traveled to many places in Europe and I hope to see more in the future.
